Indie is a strong woman's name and it is kind of fun!

RickGhastley Sat 06-Aug-11 17:17:27

I have only ever met one Indie and it was a boy, short for Indiana.

I quite like it but it sounds like a nickname, is it short for anything?

InstantAtom Sat 06-Aug-11 17:38:22

It's a kind of music, isn't it? As in independent record labels.

<feels old>

I also know a male Indi, but I do like it

No, it sounds silly. If you wanted a full name, I suppose India is a conventioanl option. But it really sounds too try hard hippyish

CroissantNeuf Sat 06-Aug-11 17:46:09

It sounds like its an abbreviated form of India which was a common name around here about 8 years ago.

(could also be shortened version of Indira)

InstantAtom Sat 06-Aug-11 17:50:27

India is a bit "done" now but Indira is nice.

Bandwithering Sat 06-Aug-11 18:53:15

I like it a lot more than India. I would expect to find the parents of an India a tiny bit annoying.

Andie short for Andrea
Lindy short for Lindsay

two similar sounding names that mgiht provoke fewer 'whatsortofaname is that?' looks. If you care. If not, Indie is quite nice actually.

My cousin's youngest son is called Indy. I think it's a good name for either sex.

umiaisha Sat 06-Aug-11 19:23:19

My youngest (boy) is called Indy, not short for anything. If he had been a girl he would have been Indie/Indira.

Obviously I like it!!

tammytoby Sat 06-Aug-11 20:22:19

I like it. Short, snappy and easy to spell/pronounce. And not overused as so many names on here are.

Bandwithering Sat 06-Aug-11 20:29:10

so are you two cousins then?!?

RatherBeOnThePiste Sat 06-Aug-11 20:33:44

The Indi we know is 10 and SHE is gorgeous! It isn't short for anything.

MaryBS Sat 06-Aug-11 20:36:02

I couldn't help but think of Indiana Jones, he got called Indi

LDNmummy Sat 06-Aug-11 20:53:09

It doesn't sound like a complete name to me.

I would have suggested India as I love it regardless of it being 'overdone'.

PonceyMcPonce Sat 06-Aug-11 20:53:13

Indiana took his name from the dog!
Nn imo

LivinInATinyZoo Sat 06-Aug-11 22:36:27

could also be short for Indigo (home and away)

daimbardiva Sat 06-Aug-11 22:37:25

I know an Indy - I wasn't super keen on the name when her parents chose it, but now of course it really suits her, and she's a lovely girl, so I'm fond of it because of that smile

I desperately wanted to name ds1 Indiana, Indie for short. It would have suited him perfectly too. If you love the name, go for it! I have hated the decision we made and the name he was eventually given...

SaffronCake Sun 07-Aug-11 16:54:16

i know a few Indie's but they are all either India's, Indira's or Indigo's. Indie names were massive in the hippy population between about 5 and 15 years ago, but the fashion seems to have passed now.

birdofthenorth Sun 07-Aug-11 17:53:28

Love Indra & Indira. Agree India is now overdone. Indi/e is lovely but I think I would opt for a longer full name.

SoupDragon Sun 07-Aug-11 17:56:39

The lead character in Disney's "How to be Indie" is an Indira.

NickNacks Sun 07-Aug-11 18:17:58

Middle name- Anna?

Surname- Jones?

I like it!
