Trying to decide on a girls name (due in 5 weeks) Would appreciate honest opinions on the following

  • Ella (too popular?)
  • Leyla
  • Sienna (too trendy?)

Thanks ladies!

I like Ella best of your top three, I know it's v popular -but it's lovely!

I like Leyla but would probably go for Layla spelling.

me too, Ella is best. Not a fan of Leyla - never been a fan of it in any of its various spellings. Don't actually mind Sienna, I think it is quite pretty, but you might get others who don't warm to it.

agree Bluechampagne - spelling it Leyla reminds me of British Leyland....weren't they a trucking company?

Ella.... very, very popular. but still a lovely name!

Leyla... can you either spell it Leila or Layla? it's ok, not my fave, but don't have anything against it particularly

Sienna.... don't like. don't know why, i just don't

From those three I like Ella best, although it's very popular.

How about a similar name such as Stella or Adela? Or Ella as a nickname for something longer (Mariella, Arabella, Estella, Gabriella?)

I have a DD called Ella and she is 7. It wasn't so popular then but even if I had my time again now I would choose it - so many people comment on what a great name it is....perfect for a gorgeous little girl but equally suits a grown-up and passes the 'CV test' (When thinking of a potential name for a DC I always imagine what it would look like if it were presented on a CV - would the name stand the test of time and suit an adult as much as a child?) Maybe that's me just being a bit sad, but it helped us in our decision-making!

The only one that I like is Ella but I would give her a lonnger name on the birth certificate like Gabriella or Eleanor.
