Freya - is it poncey and are there lots of them about?

My trainee mw is called Freya, which I think is lovely. I've never heard anyone called it before so it must be pretty unusual.

But then I looked it up on here and it told me among other things "many other pegs at nursery will say Freya" and that it's for "poncey unoriginal parents" Confused

What's the collective opinion, do you know tons of Freyas? Or is it so weird and far-out as to be 'poncey'?

I don't think it is poncey, but it is becoming more popular. I know 3 Freyas under 5, but they are all lovely children!

I know one Freya, a lovely little girl- there were 2 in my junior school in the '80s. I don't think its poncey or weird, its a pretty name.

It is a lovely name and the only Freya I know is not poncy so it doesn't make me connect it with poncy parents

My Dad has a dog called Freya, she is a very pretty dog if that makes a difference?

My niece has a friend called Freya, who is also very pretty. I like the name, I don't think it is poncey at all.

Those are the only two Freyas I know.

Thanks all, from these responses I am getting:

  • It's been around for a bit but is becoming increasingly popular
  • It's also popular in the hound community
  • All Freyas are pretty, even if they're dogs

I know 4 of them, the eldest is 6. She's ok looking. DD's best friend is Freya, she's pretty but very bossy, in fact all the Freyas I know are bossy.

I know two dogs, neither of which are called Freya.

I have a Freya. She's pretty and bossy and likes pretending she's a dog. She's not poncey though, and we do know one other. I knew the name from Freya Stark the travel writer, but by the time I had my DD it was becoming well known

I really like the name, but have noticed it becoming rather popular of late.

Honestly? Round here it's the exact opposite of poncy.

Have to agree with Leo, the only one I know has a somewhat unfortunate back story, lovely kid.

Well I know a very challenging looking Freya Grin

In mid thirties I would say.

Also quite a few little Freyas.

Seems to be a name of choice for the Lord Of The Rings/Dungeons and Dragons types for some reason!

Not a massive fan.

I wouldn't say it's poncey as there are two I know of on the estate next to us.
