Does it matter if initials spell out a word?

Only have one first name that we both like. Want middle name to be from the family. Only one that sounds right leaves the 3 initials spelling out a word. Does that matter?

It depends on the word I guess. DP is a 'CAB', FIL is a 'RIB', Cousin is a 'LAR', it doesn't seem to bother / hinder any of them but obviously anything like 'HOG', 'ASS', 'FAG' .etc would!

I think it would be unfortunate - could you swop the names round but call him by the B name anyhow?

I reckon that will hold up ok Grin

No, that is not OK! RBA would be better. I'm called by my middle name. Otherwise insert a further name.

That is unfortunate.
Ds's spell B,J so glad he has 2 middle names
dd2's are R,I,C
my friends dd is L.E,A,H

I think you may have to fild some alternatives

RBA is not an option, as that would mean he shared DH's name, and I don't like the whole X Snr and X Jnr thing in a family.

The other option is BJA..... which I think is ok, but DH says reminds him of "blow-job" Confused....
....so if the choice was BRA or BJA, which would you choose?

He doesn't have to have your DH's first name, he can be called by his middle name.

How many times do you use all three initials? I never ever use mine. It's either first and last or first two and surname.

G. M. Lacey or G.L. I would never sign anything G.M.L.

SV, that would solve the problem, but cause confusion on forms etc. so not keen on doing that.
GL.... you have a point there.

Does it really matter? When does anyone ever use their full initials anyway?

Unless you're having monogrammed handkerchieves!

My baba's full initials spell out a word, but he'll only use the first and last letters when marking things with his initials, surely.

So does that mean your DH's initials are BRA? I use my middle name as my named name for everything, except passport forms etc.

Yes it matters if the word it spells out can be used to pick on the child

and BRA for a boy is a no way for me

Initials turn up at school in the unlikeliest of places -

ask yourself would it cause a classroom or 8, 13 or 16 year olds to laugh and if it would don't do it

BJA also a no-no because of the blow job

Pelagia · 26/07/2011 13:52

How about giving him two middle names? So he becomes BRTA or whatever?

there was a psychology study done on initials-names
they found that surprise surprise kids with the inititials A.C.E or W.I.N etc did much better in life than those with negative-connotation words eg. D.U.D and so on.

It would be a 'no no' for me.. He'd get ribbed something terrible..

in my head this is what the initials do
BMA = Bowel Movement (but kids wouldn't go there)
BBA
BCA
BDA
BEA
BFA = Big fuck All
BGA
BHA
BIA
BJA = Blow Job
BKA
BLA = Blah, Blah, Blah

well you see what I mean

do not call him the BRA name,
I beseech you!!

WhipMeIndiana · 26/07/2011 13:56

agree Activate, you have to think carefully about initials

BRA isn't acceptable really. What about about an extra middle name?

DS has initials that spell OAK. this was deliberate! Family did suggest names that spelt FUK and KOK and SIK, but we managed to avoid them :o

BRA would not be good, but could you go for a second middle name so his initials were (for example) BRJA?
