I love it, it was on my (very) shortlist if DD2 had been a boy.

Always makes me think of a gladiator..

It's OK. Not top of my list but it's a perfectly good name so if you like it, use it :)

sorry but always makes me think Mucus

I love it. It's a great name. Normal, classic, Roman. I would have used it for my son except it sounded terrible with sur name.

I can't help but say Mar-coos in an attempt at a Spanish accent like Pia used to say in Eldorado. Spoilt the name forever for me.

My neighbour has just had a baby Marcus. The only other I know is one of my best friends. It's really classic but underused.

It's a lovely name, not too poncey but different enough. (IMO)

My husband wants this if we ever have a DS

Great name: very strong name. Roman! I imagine a born leader...

I love it and it was a top choice for me as a boy's name but DH vetoed it. We didn't have a boy anyway.

CountBapula · 26/07/2011 22:29

I like it a lot, and one of DH's best friends - a dear sweet man - is called Marcus (DH does call him Mucus though). Unfortunately our surname ends in '-us' so we'd never use it for a DS because he'd end up sounding like a centurion.

I like it.

thanks for everyones comments. do you think it would be shortened to marc (i would not like this). our son is approx 2 weeks old and we have named him marcus. thinking marcus benjamin or marcus zachary . we have not registered the birth yet. i find it so hard with boys names thanks again

Have never known anyone to shorten the Marcus I know to Marc. Congratulations !

Report
fraktious · 27/07/2011 07:03

Congratulations!

DS was going to be Marcus Aurelius all throughout my pregnancy Grin I think many were secretly disappointed by the lack of Aurelius...

I prefer Marcus Benjamin. Marcus needs a soft middle name IMO.

We abbreviate to Marc btw but that's because Marcus is French is horrid.

Report
InstantAtom · 27/07/2011 09:43

I don't think it would be abbreviated to Marc.

Marcus Benjamin flows nicely. I like Zachary but Marcus Zachary is awkward to say because the s and Z are together.

Report
lotti37 · 27/07/2011 13:22

hi thanks everyone. i preferred marcus benjamin too and agree flows better! thanks again

As the Mum of a gorgeous five year old Marcus, I just wanted to stick my nose in and say it's a gorgeous name, it never gets shortened, and he's the only one in his school with that name so at least it's not too common!

I don't mind it although I wouldn't have chosen it for a ds

Great name - go for it! I can't have it because it doesn't work with our surname. I would if I could.

Marcus Benjamin is a fab name, great choice! I know a very cute little Marcus and have never thought of the mucus thing before. I wouldn't automatically shorten either.
