oh, and middle name ought to be Rae for family reasons, but cos Kate Rae Loy doesn't work, middle name will probably be Emily or Juliet (neither of which I like enough to be first names but have emotional resonance)

I LOVE Iris - DH says it's an old lady name (humph)

Esther - OK, although I do think "Rantzen". How about Estella?
Phoebe - like
Kate - would use Katherine as full name. A bit bland TBH
Emilia - lovely

My recently born DD was going to be Phoebe but DH wasn't keen. I think its a great name. I also like Emilia.

Phoebe or Kate for meSmile Catharine Rae Loy maybe?

Ethan and Esther , i'm unsure, and think they are a little too close.

Of your list i adore Kate - simple but very very elegant and under used!

How about Susannah? I love Susannah

Susannah Rae Loy? Also think it's lovely with Ethan

Other Suggestions erm,

Martha
Harriet
Georgia (or Georgina)
Sasha

I like your list of names, except Esther.

I think a longer name would be better with your surname, how about:-

Catherine nn Kate
Charlotte
Madeline
Francesca

Georgia and sasha I like. I love charlotte but really don't like inevitable nn of Charlie.

Agree a longer name goes with our surname better but Kate is my fav and I don't really like any of the long versions. Would it be so bad to have one syllable first and surname?

I think Phoebe is really common post friends..?! Also not too keen.

Love emilia, and think Emilia Rae Loy sounds nice.

Iris is lovely, my dn has that name.

it has a ring to it

phew.....I think I'm going off all the others but want a list rather than one option and decide when she arrives (feel like I'm tempting fate to name her before she's born)

agree I think names with 3 or 4 syllables would go better with Loy, although having said that Kate Loy does have some sort of impact, but feels a bit plain to me. I like Emilia.

Esther for me. Sounds lovely with your surname.

Ephiny · 22/07/2011 15:01

Don't really like Esther (and it's a bit similar to Ethan IMO) or Phoebe, Kate is nice but maybe a longer name would sound better with your very short surname, especially as the middle name is going to be short as well!

Emilia goes quite nicely with the surname. I think Emily is good too, and a bit less 'frilly' than Emilia. Or how about Eleanor?

If we choose Kate as the first name, her middle name will be Emily or Juliet - though I do quite like Juliet for a first name, I hate Jules!!

Does Lyra Loy sound ridiculous? I've always loved it but thought maybe it sounds like a high class escort....

mwah ha ha mousey you've been caught stealing my name Wink

I think Lyra Loy is quite cool- reminds me of Lucy Lui (is that how you spell it??) - doesn't really remind me of an escort actually. But i think other people might think otherwise!!!!

Sorry I think Lyra Loy sounds absolutely awful, Lyra is quite an ugly name anyway IMO and definitely doesn't go with that surname!
