we are not now going to have a boy (2 DDs, which is fab), but we were going to call any son Aoghan (ay-gon) - Irish name meaning 'little fire'. You can spell it Aogan too. Loved it, sorry we can't use it

Isadora, Elodie, Norah, Evangeline

DH vetoed them although perhaps they aren't really that unusual. He's just picky Smile

tigana I had an great-aunt who insisted on calling herself Myfanwy - I think her actual name was Marion. She was a kleptomaniac...

this is fun!

I'm not allowed anything from Lord of the Rings despite putting these repeatedly on the baby name lists:

Aragorn
Strider
Theoden
Peregrine
Merry
Arwen

Chiara, it's actually dd's middle name so not sure it counts. I wish I'd had the nerve to use it for her first name.

I love this thread! Am currently 28 weeks pregnant with with a little girl and I want a pretty, uncommon, but not invented name. I wonder if I'll find one here!

Dexter - dd's 'if she'd been a boy' name
Ariadne - ds1's 'girl' name
Capella - ds2's 'girl' name
A/Eithne (also means 'little fire' i believe)
Caoimhe - we have no Irish connection at all

We toyed with Anakin - but he becomes Darth Vader..!

I love Evander - but couldn't convince dh.

Caoimhe is a lovely name - won't go with surname, also like Ariadne. Your rejects are so nice Adair I'm curious as to what you actually picked!

hmm, some of these are making me wobbly about DD2's name choice...Iris I like a lot, and Tess (I already know one of those though). I'm ignoring the boys' names, not because I don't like a lot of them, but I have no use for them, sadly...

Bye bye Elisabeth and Monica (you were a boy, after all)
Bye Bye Hugo and William (you were a girl)
bye Bye Brian and Martin ( no WAY DH!!!! )
Bye Bye Joni and Maya (vetoed by DH)

Funny to wonder what those DC would have been like if they had had those names

rhetorician · 21/07/2011 22:46

norks great post! I think you and your DH fall into opposite ends on the naming spectrum - well done for agreeing on some name in the end (presumably)
