Our baby girl has no name - please help

Our baby was born on tuesday morning.

We don't know what to call her. For a while she was Sofia, but wondering about Florence and Cordelia.

The only thing we are sure about is Grace for a middle name.

Any thoughts? Should we just stick to Sofia.

It turns out naming a baby is tough.

Congratulations :)

Why don't you write all those choices on bits of paper and draw one out? Then go with your gut feeling. So, you put your hand in and, for example, draw out Sofia. If your instant reaction is 'oh bugger' then you know it's not quite the name for you.

They're all lovely, you can't go wrong with any of them, it's just nailing the right one that's hard.

you had a gut feeling to call her Sofia.

Sofia Grace is a lovely name, but if your not sure I agree with gwen stick them in a hat.

Sofia and Cordelia are both lovely and Florence is nice. None of them will be a bad choice, IMO. I vote Cordelia, personally.

Cordelia and Sophia are both lovely.

You don't have to decide yet - try them all out, one of them will just feel right.

Congratulations!

What about Grace as a first name?

Report
CharlieBoo · 21/07/2011 20:19

Grace is lovely as a first name, I think I prefer it to Sophia, which seems a very 'in' name at the moment. Prefer that spelling to Sophia though I think. Florence is beautiful, but getting popular too. Our friends just had a baby Florence and know of a few Sophia's.

Sofia is lovely and there aren't too many of them. I wouldn't use Grace as a first name as it's so overused (plus I don't like it). Florence is gorgeous too.

Love CordeliaSmile ...Cordelia grace

Sofia and Florence are both lovely names, but they are very popular at the mo.

OP agree with posters who say go with your gut, don't be swayed by random internet people telling you something is getting overused or they don't like it, she is your daughter not theirs- unless you call her XYZ123 then someone's going to also have her name...

thanks for your ideas. It's a tricky business. It is annoying that the names we like are the popular ones. I suppose that's what makes them popular.

I think we'll keep Grace as a middle name, because it is so popular.

We only had Florence and Sofia on the shortlist at birth but brought Cordelia into it because of our indecision. We hadn't considered it at all during pregnancy but stumbled on it during an internet trawl today. (so romantic)

Despite that I think we might be leaning that way.

Any more thoughts gratefully received.

Sofia and Florence are my favourites. Florence (Florrie as nn) would be my top choice.

I think Cordelia Grace sounds perfect, the names just seem to go together so well. Whereas Florence Grace doesn't flow as well (nor does Sofia Grace for some reason). Not that I'd worry too much about that, as presumably you won't often use the full name anyway!

Personally not keen on Florence, just sounds a bit old fashioned and frilly/fussy to me. I think Cordelia is my favourite, though Sofia/Sophia is nice too and a very classic and elegant name.

Sofia Grace - lovely
Florence Grace - I like Florence but the two "ce" endings are a bit awkward together.
Cordelia Grace - I don't like Cordelia at all, sorry.
