It's the name of Gillian Anderson's daughter iirc...

EsmeWeatherwax Sat 16-Jul-11 17:50:01

Oh, Piper I like. Very much! Am expecting dc3 and very short of girls names...I like Pippa too...

I would imagine that it might take off in the wake of Harper. I see them as way more similar than Piper and Pippa. They are poles apart IMO.

I have loved the name Piper for years. smile

Bandwithering Sat 16-Jul-11 18:39:13

Piper no. It reminds me of the Piper Alfa the oil rig that exploded. Or it reminds me of piper maris, a potato.

PaperBank Sat 16-Jul-11 20:05:24

Oil rig.

There's an actress called Piper Perabo (sp?), she was in coyote ugly.

MinnieBar Sat 16-Jul-11 20:18:38

Piper Perabo?

And I think one of the characters in that programme about the three witch sisters was called Piper [helpful].

Also, the champagne!

Rhubarbgarden Sat 16-Jul-11 20:54:34

No danger of Piper being confused with Pippa. Pippa is a lovely, classic and elegant name.

PippiLongBottom Sat 16-Jul-11 21:03:42

grin at Rhubarb.

Raahh Sat 16-Jul-11 21:15:27

If Pippa/Philippa becomes popular, then it is a good thing as it a lovely name (shamelessly biased mother of a Pippa). Piper is a very different name, imo.

Phoenix Sat 16-Jul-11 21:17:34

I like it smile, and also thought of the actress in Coyote Ugly (my fave film grin)

chocolateyclur Sat 16-Jul-11 21:31:21

I like Piper for a girl. Not Pippa though.

tammy234 Sat 16-Jul-11 21:32:31

Piper sounds very masculine to me. It also won't travel well into other languages...

GwendolineMaryLacey Sun 17-Jul-11 07:07:56

Charmed and yes, one of the sisters was named Piper. I like it smile

duzida Sun 17-Jul-11 21:30:07

pretty name BUT one of Sarah Palin's daughters is a Piper. And she's got another daughter called Bristol hmm

TillyIpswitch Mon 18-Jul-11 07:56:14

Pippa and Piper are verrrrry different names, so no need to worry if Pippa does take off, as it will have no bearing on the popularity of Piper!

noddyholder Mon 18-Jul-11 07:57:24

Piper is lovely Don't like Pippa at all
