There are flower names (Rose, Heather) and herb names (Basil, Rosemary) and nature names (River, Skye) and animal names (Wolf, Bear) but no bird names. Except Robin.

DaisySteiner Fri 15-Jul-11 15:37:02

Hah!
Our extended family has (by coincidence, honest) both a Martin and a Robin. Suggestions were made that we should call the kids Peregrine and Mavis (which does mean thrush btw) to be in keeping with the theme.

BlueChampagne Fri 15-Jul-11 16:09:25

EthelredOnAGoodDay Fri 15-Jul-11 16:12:42

What about albatross, shagg or gannet?! It seems odd at first thought that there are so few bird related names, but then when you think about it, maybe not!!!

allhailtheaubergine Fri 15-Jul-11 16:31:00

I thought Paloma was a horse.

ShoutyHamster Fri 15-Jul-11 18:13:47

There is Linnet - in Welsh, Llinos (which is quite popular)

MumblingRagDoll Fri 15-Jul-11 18:21:19

Ooh I like both Linnet and Llinos! I thought of Linnet when I was pregnant but DH wouldn't have it.

mumzy Fri 15-Jul-11 19:15:08

wasn't that boy whose mad parents told everyone he had taken off in a hot air balloon by himself called FALCON!

GrimmaTheNome Fri 15-Jul-11 19:19:03

Scott of the Antarctic was Robert Falcon Scott. Quite funny that his son Peter became the a leader of bird (and other) conservation.

ImpyCelyn Fri 15-Jul-11 19:25:45

Gavin means falcon. And Gawain.

PaperBank Fri 15-Jul-11 19:36:04

Paloma means "dove", allhailtheaubergine.

Are you thinking of Palamino horses?

GrimmaTheNome Fri 15-Jul-11 19:37:26

I bet we could nominate a name or two that should mean 'Great Tit'.grin
