Hello, I need to register my baby's name today. We decided on Maddex (Maddex Arran) but am a little apprehensive. Firstly should I spell it Maddex or Maddox and secondly what do you think of the name please?

I'm not keen on either, but Maddex is definitely the worst option.

Go with Maddox, if you must (it's the spelling Angelina used for her son).

jenrendo Tue 12-Jul-11 11:58:11

Definately Maddox. Maddex remoinds me of tippex for some reason. Maddox is lovely smile

DragonAlley Tue 12-Jul-11 11:59:08

Maddex makes him sound like a mad ex partner! And looks like you can't spell, IMO.

Maddox isn't my kind of name but [shrug]

DragonAlley Tue 12-Jul-11 12:01:25

Do you mean Aaron rather than Arran?

jenrendo Tue 12-Jul-11 12:03:45

I have a boy in my class called Arran, like the isle. Nice and Scottish.

PaperBank Tue 12-Jul-11 12:04:05

Maddox Arran.

(I'd pronounce Aaron as "Airon")

WiiDram Tue 12-Jul-11 12:05:17

Arran is a name in its own right DragonAlley.

Maddex is a bit of an odd spelling though. People will pronounce it 'mad ex' which I am guessing is not what you want. I'd go for Maddox.

DragonAlley Tue 12-Jul-11 12:05:39

Some countries, like Australia, pronounce Aaron as Arran.

TinFairy Tue 12-Jul-11 12:05:45

Maddex sounds like a cleaning product.

Maddex makes me think of FedExor as others have said Mad- Ex. I would go with Maddox

Noleen Tue 12-Jul-11 12:11:44

yeah, it's Arran after the Isle of Arran in Scotland which is special to our family.

Noleen Tue 12-Jul-11 12:12:58

Do you prefer Arran as a first name?

MrsOzz Tue 12-Jul-11 12:13:23

I quite like either. Maybe decide if a nn would be Max or Dex?

Noleen Tue 12-Jul-11 12:21:00

I thought it might be Maddy?

PaperBank Tue 12-Jul-11 12:22:23

I do prefer Arran as first name.

Not Maddy as nickname, too feminine. Max would be a good nickname.

DragonAlley Tue 12-Jul-11 12:22:49

Noooo, Maddy is a girl nickname.

I do prefer Arran as the first name. More my kind of name, not that that is a reason to change it! grin

I only asked about Arran/Aaron out of curiosity btw.

Noleen Tue 12-Jul-11 12:24:20

Oh dear, my mum said that and she said that he would probably get Maddy?? So is it best for us nick name him then so people follow suit?

BerryLellow Tue 12-Jul-11 12:24:31

We have a similar first name for DS2, and mostly it's shortened to Mads.

Bunbaker Tue 12-Jul-11 12:26:25

"Maddex makes him sound like a mad ex partner! And looks like you can't spell, IMO."

I agree. Also names ending in ex sound like some kind of toiletry or cleaning product. I'm not keen on Maddox, but I don't hate it.

Kveta Tue 12-Jul-11 12:28:12

I was going to suggest shortening it to Mads, but see that BarryLellow has got there first grin <waves manically at bazza>

Maddox Arran is a nice combo, but def spell with the 'o'.

PatriciaHolm Tue 12-Jul-11 12:28:16

Never heard of Maddex, the name is spelt normally spelt Maddox I think so you'll have to get used to people spelling/pronouncing it wrong all the time!

I like Arran, especially as it has ties to your family.

DragonAlley Tue 12-Jul-11 12:38:11

The more I say it, the more I prefer the names the other way round. The X of Maddox runs into the A of Arran. Mad Oxarran.

LetThereBeRock Tue 12-Jul-11 12:48:53

I really don't like Maddex/Maddox. It sounds like a cleaning product.

Arran is lovely and a much nicer first name.
