Does anyone else find the name Nathaniel really irritating?

That's it really. Just had to air my thoughts as the name seems so popular on here at the moment.

Ha ha, yes but only because the Nat I know is the biggest nob jockey imaginable.

DoNotTakeMeSiriusly Sun 10-Jul-11 23:15:52

You are strange.

No, I like it. We all have different tastes though - I dislike a few of the names which are currently popular on MN too.

PipFEH Mon 11-Jul-11 09:07:31

No, but I find deliberately obnoxious posts about names highly irritating!

sonniebonnie Mon 11-Jul-11 09:09:28

I don't particularly like Nathaniel but of course there will be people who don't like a name. No name is loved by all, thankfully.

I think everybody has a few names that they find irritating for no particular reason. Nathaniel doesn't bother me and I quite like the nickname Nate. James and Thomas however - my heart sinks a little bit when I hear someone suggests them on a name thread.

Nathaniel is a lovely name.

We have a child where I work who is called Nathanuel. Spelled like that (it's not a typo).

The child gets most uppity if it is spelled or said wrongly, but it's hard to accommodate every parental spelling mistake.

Love Nathan, love Daniel, hate Nathaniel.

My DC's names are always getting 'meh' 'of the moment' 'can't stand' 'boring' or 'chav' comments though.

allhailtheaubergine Mon 11-Jul-11 12:16:20

Nope. Because I know the most beautiful 13 year old Nathaniel. Such a great boy and a credit to his parents. Love him, love his name.

Mabelface Mon 11-Jul-11 12:17:52

Nope, because I have a Nathaniel, known as Nat or Natty.

What a strange thread to start

How about letting us know your children's names so we can pass comment?

birdofthenorth Mon 11-Jul-11 14:24:58

I know a Nathaniel nn Nate born last week, think it's sweet. I was at school with a twat called Nathan though so was relieved when SIL chose Ethan over Nathan for our gorgeous DN!

sonniebonnie Mon 11-Jul-11 14:29:30

I agree with notso.

Nathan is nice. Daniel and Samuel/Manuel are nice.
But I don't like the combinations Nathaniel or Nathanuel.

But surely it is a good thing that we have different tastes. How boring if we all chose the same names and wore the same clothes and etc....

I feel quite defensive! I teach a Nathaniel and he's awesome and this thread is making me irrationally pee'd off because of that grin

Rhubarbgarden Mon 11-Jul-11 20:10:23

I do.

amothersplaceisinthewrong Mon 11-Jul-11 20:12:06

No, it's a good name. Better than others that have been chosen for newborns today!!

pilates Mon 11-Jul-11 20:25:08

WTFamIdoing, are you looking for an argument because that is a weird thing to come out with.

lambandmintsauce Mon 11-Jul-11 20:53:43

I love it!

MadHairMoody Mon 11-Jul-11 21:01:36

I have a Nathaniel and he is awesome, so there.

NadiaWadia Mon 11-Jul-11 22:16:18

No, it's a nice name.
