I really love the name Mae, it's a stong family name, and I'm considering using it just as a first name on it's own. Mae is usually a middle name so I would like to buck the trend.

Does anyone have suggestions as to have it included in a first name i.e. ellamae? I love Ellamae but wouldn't want to use this primarily because of the amount of Ella's I know, I think it would be shortened to Ella rather than Mae, which is the real object!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

p.s I dont know if it is a boy or girl, DH and I disagree so badly that we have chosen a sex each with one veto!

Mae is much nicer on its own than tagged onto some extra letters or worse, hyphenated!

If you want a 'proper' longer version then some options are...

Maeko
Maekiyo
Maemi (all Japanese)

Maera (Greek)

Maertisa (English)

Maeve (Irish)

Maelynn
Maelee (Latin)

Probably wouldn't use it for a boy, but if you insist...

Maemi (Japanese)
Maeron (Gaelic)

I would just use Mae by itself.

I agree, maybe I will just use Mae- although thank you for the well thought out list Cattleprod!

I like Mae by itself best :) Personally I prefer the spelling May.

Mae is a nice name on its own. Utterly done to death as a MN or even worse - double barrelled. Ellamae is the worst of the lot.
