Bernard? Completely bonkers or pleasingly retro?

I love it and so does dh.

What do you think? Would it go with a 'posh' double barrelled surname....

Imo it would have to be Bernie for the baby years.

Have you tried shouting it in the street, that's the only way to test names.

It shrieks "Blackadder" to me!

Nursey (Blackadder)

I really like it but think of Bernard the naughty boy in the Shirley Hughes stories. Annie-Rose (Alfie's little sister) calls him 'Durnard'!

I love it, so, so much, and have tried to persuade dh in every one of my pregnancies.
Very cute as Bernie, and Bernard is a lovely gentlemans name.

tummytickler my dh has suggested Bernard during each pregnancy.

I like it, but not enough.

I like it because no one else down here has used it. Only trouble is I get 'Bernie the fastest milk cart in the west' in my head ( I know it's really Ernie).

It's awful.

It was Ernie and the fastest milk cart in the west...

I can confirm Bernard is, however, irrefutably awful and there is a very good reason no-one has used it where you live. Grin

Bloody horrible. It makes me think of beards for some reason.

It's great as long as you don't pronounce it Be'-NARD.

I know a little 4 year old Bernie and so have changed my associations with the name. Used to think of it as an old mans name but now associate with a gorgeous little boy.

People only think of old men or Blackadder because they don't know any young Bernards.
