I love it and so does dh.

What do you think? Would it go with a 'posh' double barrelled surname....

Imo it would have to be Bernie for the baby years.

Have you tried shouting it in the street, that's the only way to test names.

It shrieks "Blackadder" to me!

aliceliddell Thu 07-Jul-11 14:01:06

Nursey (Blackadder)

I really like it but think of Bernard the naughty boy in the Shirley Hughes stories. Annie-Rose (Alfie's little sister) calls him 'Durnard'!

I love it, so, so much, and have tried to persuade dh in every one of my pregnancies.
Very cute as Bernie, and Bernard is a lovely gentlemans name.

Hedwig3 Thu 07-Jul-11 14:51:01

tummytickler my dh has suggested Bernard during each pregnancy.

I like it, but not enough.

I like it because no one else down here has used it. Only trouble is I get 'Bernie the fastest milk cart in the west' in my head ( I know it's really Ernie).

frazzle26 Thu 07-Jul-11 15:45:29

It's awful.

PuppyMonkey Thu 07-Jul-11 15:48:52

It was Ernie and the fastest milk cart in the west...

I can confirm Bernard is, however, irrefutably awful and there is a very good reason no-one has used it where you live. grin

doggus Thu 07-Jul-11 15:59:24

Ha ha frazzle and Puppy - don't hold back!!

newbroom Thu 07-Jul-11 16:01:13

Oh no, it makes me think of Not Now Bernard! (DS's favourite book at the moment grin)

kreecherlivesupstairs Thu 07-Jul-11 16:02:46

Bloody horrible. It makes me think of beards for some reason.

LineRunner Thu 07-Jul-11 16:13:13

It's great as long as you don't pronounce it Be'-NARD.

SloganLogan Thu 07-Jul-11 16:35:08

Completely bonkers (you did ask!)

tammytoby Thu 07-Jul-11 17:09:55

I like Bernard - classic name that isn't already used by thousands others - whats not to like? Bernie is a cute nickname.

No idea what/who blackadder is though hmm...

Catsu Thu 07-Jul-11 17:12:48

Terrible. Almost as bad as Keith

LetThereBeRock Thu 07-Jul-11 18:08:17

Bonkers.It's dreadful.

MelinaM Thu 07-Jul-11 20:19:57

Lovely, love Berniesmile

Panzee Thu 07-Jul-11 20:21:16

Round these parts, Bernard is used as an insult. "You Bernard..."

Gilberte Thu 07-Jul-11 20:23:05

Fantastic. I once had a hamster called Bernard, named after nursey from Blackadder of course

Jojay Thu 07-Jul-11 20:24:26

Awful. Please don't do it.

fishandlilacs Thu 07-Jul-11 21:21:08

my dad's a bernard-most often known as Bern.

Maryz Thu 07-Jul-11 21:26:10

Unless you are Irish, and your son is going to be instantly aged 50 when he is born, please don't do it sad.

Would you pronounce it Ber-nerd (as in nerd), or Ber-nard (to rhyme with hard?)

Bernie is a girl's name, short for Bernadette, who is also Irish, over 50, and probably a nun (twitches at memory of Sister Bernadette and her metal-sided ruler hmm).
