As a middle name?
I don't love the name but it is a family members name who I would love to name my dd after.
What do we think?

I still tend to think "Duckworth", but think it'd be fine in the middle.

I think the only thing really tainting it is the Duckworth connection. But that won't be a problem for future generations, so yeah go for it!

If you aren't that keen on it as a name how about one that carries the same meaning (Truth), like Verity.

That way you can honor the person with a name for you child that perhaps you do like a little better.

Dh was desperate to honor his father by naming our son after him. Trouble is that Franco just didn't do it for me, so we plumped for Francesco as the official name and Frankie as the nickname. FIL was utterly delighted despite the tweaking.

On the other hand some people just aren't happy unless it is totally the same.

MIL was determined to be similarly honored (via the steamroller approach) and was most put out when we had the cheek to use the masculine version of her name rather than the feminine version she is called.

I am odd, I wouldn't be able to call my child Vera, I would have to call the lass Veronica and shorten it to Vera. Yes, even for a middle name.

I like Vera.

I would never have thought Duckworth.

I think it's a lovely name that should come back. It reminds me of Vera Brittain who wrote Testament of Youth.

If the OP wants to use the name specifically to honour someone, then suggesting alternatives seems to me a weird thing to do.

I get maybe using a different name which has the same meaning (just), but a totally different name which just happens to share the first letter? What would be the point of that?! Confused Grin

Great name with a bit of oomph in my opinion!

Well I think Vera Farmiga rather than Duckworth, I rather like it as she is so gorgeous.

Awful, even as a middle name. Vita on the other hand is beautiful - good call MelinaM!

I like Vera, but then I've lived in Russia and speak Russian and it's an elegant name there and doesn't have the baggage it has here

I quite like Vera.
If anything it makes me think 'Wang' rather than Duckworth (but then I never watched corrie or whatever she was in!)

I like Vera. Classic, beautiful and not overused.

Don't like it, it seems very dated and old-lady-ish to me, and I just don't like the sound or look of it somehow.

Verity is lovely though.
