A long shot I know but does anyone know any Albanian names. I've heard a few but they either sound awful or have really odd spellings.

The only boys' names I've heard of are Zog and Leka from the old Albanian royal family. And Enver (Hoxha) the old communist leader. None of which have brilliant connotations!

Zog sounds like a friend of ET, Nico and Costa are very Greek too.

Traditional Albanian names
For boys:
Alban
Aleksander
Dardan
Konstandin
Jeton
Valon

For girls:
Vera
Lule
Era
Dardana
Jehona

The Albanians I know are are Rita, Christina, and Teresa (Mother Teresa was Albanian as well, so it's likely a common name there).

Thanks, apart from the 2 I'm not sure about I just don't like the way boys names sound in Albanian. I'm open to suggestions but already have my heart set on a girls's name.

Boy. The Enva I know of would not be a good role model though. Think dictator.

I know someone whose mum is Albanian and she gave him the name Stephen, pronounced Stef-en. Apparently there are a lot of churches in Albania named after St Stephen.

I think it's normally spelled Stefan in Albania though.

I had my hair cut by an Albanian woman recently (in her 20s, I guess).

Name? Albana.

Meets your criteria and has an obvious link to the country...

Flutura for a girl. Apparently it means 'butterfly' - how pretty is that??

Luljeta, 'flower of life'

Vera, 'summer'

For a boy:

Alban
Skender (this is cool IMO)
Afrim

I just found a really weird website listing 'westlife', 'song min jin' and '0876871078' amongst the top 100 Albanian names [hconfused]

Behind the Name has quite a few listed and is pretty reliable. Just google 'behind the name'

freerangeeggs i read somewhere that Albania and China had strong links due to their communist regimes, but that would only explain song min jin!

for boys names, the only ones I can remember from when I went are Aslan (you already have), Leonidas (shortened to Loni) and Genci (hard g, soft c). I met loads more people, terrible memory though
