Hi. I've finally plucked up the courage to post our shortlist on here to get peoples views! Dd is due in September so we have some time for fine-tuning/final selections.

Middle name will be Rose (after my sister/her godmother), surname starts with F.

Romilly (nn Romy)
Abigail (nn Abi)
Georgina (nn Georgie)

Thanks Smile

I wouldn't go with Romilly Rose, although it does roll off the tongue quite nicely!

Abigail would be my pick of the three.

Not on your list but I prefer Georgiana to Georgina and Georgina always makes me think of Tim from the Famous Five :)

Abigail or Georgina but not Romilly.

Abigail or Georgina (although I prefer Georgiana as well).

I think Georgiana will be 'off the table' unfortunately as DH doesn't like "adding random extra syllables into names" Confused

Why no to Romilly Rose when it trips off the tongue so nicely - and as middle names are used so rarely in rl? (Ahem, that one might be my favourite!!)

Georgina rose works best. Could also be shortend to gina.

I think Abigail/Abi is a little dated and I'm not fond of the "Gail" part.

I like Georgie as a nn but not a fan of Georgina.

Romilly is a fab name, and Romy or Milly good nn's. But then I am a little biased ;)

I think Abigail is lovely :)

Abi and Georgie are quite popular. I don't know any children called Romilly so on that basis it gets my vote.

Rather like Romilly Rose actually, my DD (I have just realised!) has alliterative first and second names and I am not a fan of alliteration like that in other ways (eg all DCs' names starting with same letter, first and surname starting with same letter etc)

I think Romilly Rose is lovely. Not keen on the other two tbh.

I love alliteration, and have AA initials (first and middle) myself. The first A is Abigail, and I like it, but for you, with Rose as a MN, her initials would be ARF. So I'll vote for Romilly. It's meaning is 'walker' though, which to me is a bit boring, as far as name meanings go. Also agree Abigail is rather popular, depends if that bothers you.

I too would be in the GeorgiAna camp. FYI, it's a proper and time honoured spelling (Think that Keira Knightley film The Duchess). The name is probably 2-300yrs old and I think very elegant.

Not sure about Romilly. I wouldn't be sure if it was male or female and sounds a bit surnamey to me - which I'm not fond of. Abigail is nice though and all go well with Rose.

Georgina or Abigail.

GeorgiAna is too fussy compared to Georgina.

Mateysmum... I agree that GeorgiAna is a lovely, proper and traditional name... it is just DH seems to have some sort of 3 syllable rule when it comes to names. Pre-pregnancy I had all sorts of names vetoed on that basis so I have given up on trying!!

Nohun... I'm having a giggle at ARF!! But also GRF is a bit, umm, gruff!! (And RRF ruff!!) TBH as it doesn't spell anything rude or offensive I had decided to let it fly.

I live just round the corner from a Romilly Road, so that would put me off a bit! I do like Romilly though.

What about Rose as first name?

Report
MsChanandlerBong · 01/07/2011 11:38

Pasty we did contemplate that (or rather Rosie, which is what DSis is really called) but I am hoping that DD and DSis will have a lovely close relationship and I think that might get a bit confusing.

On this basis we also ruled out the name Josie which we loved (Rosie and Josie are going for a walk... sounds a bit Janet and John!!)

Anyway, we prefer the three on our shortlist now Smile

I think they're all nice!

I think I agree with your husband about Georgiana, it's a bit fussy.
