Hi,
We've not long to go now and we have a shortlist of girls names but are finding it difficult. Any opinions or thoughts? Surname is a short, single syllable ...

Audrey
Eliza
Evelyn
Hannah
Martha
Matilda
Norah

Quite like older-fashioned names but worried some could have associations that we're not too keen on (you can probably spot the ones I mean).

Sorry for the lack of originality of the post. And thanks for any response.

not many elizas around, it's pretty but will probably get shortened to lizzie.

evelyn is lovely too, but lots of eves and evas

audrey makes me think of a little old lady rather than hepburn

hannah is nice but i think relatively uncommon now which might be a good point...

Audrey - hmm, not sure, bit old lady ish
Eliza - like. I also like Elise and Eloise
Evelyn - like. But Eve is very popular
Hannah - not keen (for no particular reason)
Martha - like, and quite unusual
Matilda - quite like, but getting very popular
Norah - not keen, sounds a bit frumpy to me. How about Cora or Nina...

Hannah isn't boring! It's a palindrome. And it's my name. :)
Martha and Norah are lovely names.
I like all of them, but those would be my top 3.

Love all of those. Favorites are Eliza, Hannah and Audrey. Have you considered Louisa or Margaret?

I love Norah and there are not many around. I like all your names except Evelyn - just not my cup of tea.

In order of preference...

Hannah - lovely, classic name
Audrey - nice, due a revival
Evelyn - lovely but super-popular if you count all the Ava/Eva/Eve/Evies as well
Eliza - too parlourmaid-nicknamey, prefer Elizabeth as full name, lots of nickame options including Eliza
Martha - a bit dull-sounding
Matilda - dislike, a bit of a fad name

SloganLogan · 28/06/2011 14:13

Forgot Norah! I'd put it after Eliza. OK but prefer Nina.

Audrey - bit dated
Eliza -prefer elizabeth
Evelyn - love it
Hannah - don't see this as an old name
Martha - not so keen
Matilda - not so keen
Norah - npt so keen

Report
olddeuteronomy · 28/06/2011 21:12

Audrey - not keen, but can see it will probably become quite cool
Eliza - lovely
Evelyn - don't like, especially shortened to Evie
Hannah - lovely
Martha - quite like
Matilda - quite like, people will say it is 'trendy' though
Norah - like, probably most controversial choice (people will mention Nora Batty)

In order, would go for Eliza, Hannah then Norah or Martha (Norah if you are v bothered about popularity)
