Has Emily had it's day?

Hi, both me and dh love the name Emily.

I think it's very pretty but said it may have been a bit too popular & maybe on it's way out of fashion so it will date fairly quickly. Am I overthinking it?

Only girl's name we can really agree on. DH loves Sophie but I am not loving it. I love Bethan but it sounds awful with our last name.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Emily is a lovely name. It has been quite popular for a while but it's a classic and I don't think it will date too quickly.

I agree with the other posters re Emily.

I prefer Sophia to Sophie.

Would Beth or Bethany work?

Emily's classic, it'll never be 'out', even though it's not popular right now.
I too prefer Sophia to Sophie, although I feel more comfortable with Sophie.
Bethan's nice. I prefer Bethany, but not by much.

Definitely Emily in the circumstances. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Emily is a lovely name, it was on my names list, we went for Sophie in the end Grin We considered Sophia but dh didnt like it, and as she keeps getting called Soph by me accidently it didnt matter in the end :)

It's beautiful but there are loads if that bothers you at all? DD1 has a very popular name apparently - we don't know any others. DD2 has a less common name and we know 3! You can't win either way.

Tonnes of wee girls here called Emily/Amelie/Sophie here

I think Emily is a lovely name!

It's far less frequently found than Sophie

Agree it's v v popular but it's become a classic as opposed to a trend, so I don't think it will date!

Emily is gorgeous... It's a classic that just won't date. Agree Sophie seems far more popular and Sophia has gone off the scale popular where I live in SE! Much prefer Sophie to Sophia which seems to have a bit of a trendy feel of late.

Emily has been a around for a hundred years afaik. It will wax and wane in popularity but never have 'had its day'.

Dd is Emily. She is now 8. She attends a school with nearly 300 pupils. She is one of 4; one in Y6, one in Y5, one in Y4 and dd in Y3. So no problems there Smile

Beautiful classic name.

We had our DD2 last night and had agreed on Emily but i just can't quite commit to it as a good friend has a dd called Emily who is 4. Will it cause too much confusion?

I think obviously it will date, but it will be like Claire or Rachel or Sarah. A name you might not comment on but a name with no negative associations.

it's a very pretty name. I just wouldn't use it because it's so popular. I know an Emily of 14 so I'd imagine that there are older ones, so it's probably coming to the end of its extreme popularity.

Great name which will suit all ages.

Emily certainly will date. It is not really a classic in the sense of never being out of fashion (like Elizabeth or Sarah). My own mother only knew it as an old ladies' name, and was quite horrified when it became popular :).
