Bob is fab!

Prefer Robert. Richard makes me think of a balding middle-aged man with a moustache.

Prefer Robert. Rob, Robbie, Bob and Bobby all good nicknames for various points in life. Richard just doesn't sound as nice, and Dick and Rich are rubbish nicknames (unless true).

Richard.
I don't like the nicknames of Robert (or the full name)!

Dick or Bob, I know which I'd prefer.
Oo-er missus!

Rick, Ricky or Ritchie all possible nn for Richard if you don't like the obvious.

I really don't get this thing of not liking the nickname....you don't HAVE to use it, my brother has one of these names and has never been called by the nickname even though he is now 36.
my parents always called him his proper name and he carried that on himself.
My sister has a v common name for her age which most people would prob shorten but we/she never have so she doesn't get called it by anyone.
Choose the name you like in whatever form you are likely to use yourself.

Richard. Richie is very cute.
I cannot stand the name Robert, although I like all the other Bert names, and I adore Roberta.

I meant Ritchie not Richie!

Oh is Bert a shortening of Robert? Never thought of that before.

I like Rob/Bobby too, but quite like Dicky :)

Robert. Nice name and underused.

Love both. Two underused classics for once.

I love Richie and Robbie. Both of these names were on my list. I wouldn't worry about the nick name. It'd be like hank or chuck for Henry or Charles, totally out of fashion. NObody is going to say to your child 'hey dick'. and if they do, well, men seem to cope very well with names that are penis names. Mickey, Willy for eg. but Rich seems a more obvious nn to me anyway.

Hmm yes it is true, I am not sure kids these days know about 'dick' for Richard. I am a bit worried tho DH would call DC that as a joke and it would stick :) OTOH I do like the full name Richard v. much.

My ds is called Robert but is known by most people as Rob. One of our old friends calls him Bob which really winds him up. My brother is called Richard and everyone calls him that.

I would go with Robert because that is the name I choose for my son.

Richard is nice and Richie is a cute nickname. I'm not keen on Robert/Bert/Robbie.

I've got a baby DD called Robin. Nicknamed Bob, Bobbins, Bubble etc etc. Bob's a fab name regardless of gender!

Meant to add - I love Robert as a name as well.

My dad & brother are Roberts - I think its a nice name.
My dad was known as Bob & my brother is called Robert, Rob & Uncle Bobby by my kids.

My husband is called Richard & is generally called Richard by everyone. His older brother does call him dick which i don't like. I refer to him as Rich when mentioning him in an email or text as im too lazy to type it all out Grin .... but i also do that for most people i mention in a text or email.

I've used both names as middle names for my boys, both are nice names which are underused.
