Dorrie
Or Dolly?!

Dot

Dorrie I guess. I remember a book series called Dorrie as a child.

All of those nn's are awful so I wouldn't choose Dorothy for a name.

mistressploppy Sun 12-Jun-11 23:22:06

I'd have assumed Dottie or Dolly.

I like Dorothy. I also like Dolores

seeker Sun 12-Jun-11 23:22:14

Would you consider Dorothea - shortened to Thea?

PatriciatheStripper Sun 12-Jun-11 23:40:37

I wouldn't shorten it. It's not obligatory and I have met plenty of Dorothys who didn't.

Janoschi Sun 12-Jun-11 23:43:25

Dodie is another option, like the author of 101 Dalmations...?

proudfoot Sun 12-Jun-11 23:43:26

Thea or Dora

Dorrie or Dot. Dorothea and Theadora were on my list. next time gadget!

birdofthenorth Mon 13-Jun-11 00:38:32

Ooh hadn't considered Dodie! Ruined by Dodi Al Fayed though?!

Dorothy is a family name. I like it but am not wild about it. It'd mean a lot to DH so mulling it over.

Think Dorrie is my favourite but we have an R surname & it might run together a bit (though I suppose you don't combine nicknames with surnames necessarily).

Dottie

I love Dorothy. Dottie is my favourite nn, but also like Dodie and Dolly. So many lovely nn's!

virginiasmonalogue Mon 13-Jun-11 09:33:42

My friend has a Dorothy and they never shorten it.

PatriciatheStripper Mon 13-Jun-11 11:45:11

One more - Dory (as in Dory Previn). But I wouldn't shorten it, as I said.

Northernrose Mon 13-Jun-11 14:05:29

Dora
My mum, a Dorothy, had Dos as her nn
I think Thea is a beautiful name, and have been considering this for dc2 due this week, but think it should really be a nn for Dorothea rather than Dorothy

NormanTheForeman Mon 13-Jun-11 14:08:09

I knew a Dorothy once who shortened her name to Doe.

stardustn Mon 13-Jun-11 15:28:25

My nan's name was Dorothy but she was always called Dolly

dexifehatz Mon 13-Jun-11 19:57:58

Dolly.

I'd probably go for Dottie. Lots of fantastic nicknames there to choose from.

squeak2392 Tue 14-Jun-11 20:02:08

I've been considering this as my friend wants to use it, and I've been thinking Dotty would be best... but the two just don't naturally join to me, so I'd probably use Dorrie if she was my own.
My name's Holly though, so I couldn't use Dolly even if I wanted to.

PippiLongBottom Tue 14-Jun-11 20:06:32

I really like it, and ALL of the shortenings too. My great aunt was Dorothy and she was always known as Doff.
