What do you think? I would consider using 'Tatty' for short.

NadiaWadia Thu 09-Jun-11 15:14:34

Well Tatiana is a nice-sounding name, but you do know the slang meaning of 'tatty', right? (shabby, basically).

Quite a nice name. I know a couple of Tatianas who are Russian and am not keen on the shortened version, but at least is is unusual. smile

I know a Tatiana - everyone calls her Tanya.

GwendolineMaryLacey Fri 10-Jun-11 08:50:47

Name is fine, the diminutive is Tanya isn't it? Tatty is horrible.

MrsOzz Fri 10-Jun-11 09:14:52

It reminds me of a Russian porn star. But it IS a nice name!

Tatiana is nice.

Tatty is slang for potato (as in tatties and neeps with haggis!)

MrsSchadenfreude Fri 10-Jun-11 21:58:24

Only the very best people are called Tatyana. The correct abbreviation is Tanya. NOT TATTY!

MrsSchadenfreude Fri 10-Jun-11 21:59:01

And if you are in the saaf east, it will become Ta' or Ta'y, innit?

nice name

you could use Tina as a diminutive

Hannah31 Fri 10-Jun-11 22:32:54

Surely you can abbreviate it however you want? We have Jemima, who we call Momo - or is that wrong? I like Tatty!

I used to go to school with a very pretty, diminutive, blonde girl called Catherine and her nn was Tatty.

Agree with Hannah31 - you can use whatever nickname you want.

What about Titania - has a nice, Shakespearean ring to it.
