Unusual but not ridiculous names for a boy

I am not even pregnant (TTC), so it isn't exactly an emergency. But what the heck do you call a boy? I am thinking something unusual but not so much so that he gets punched in the playground (DD is called 'Elsa', think it would be a bit mean to have one way more zany than the other). So what sort of names do you think? I have considered (yes, I do have to much brain-time on my hands):
Wilfred (Fred)
Gilbert
Lev (but someone pointed out that it sounds like 'Lav')
Edward (Ted. Too boring?)
Emil (would everyone pick on him and call him Emily?!)

I particularly like things with a central/Eastern European resonance (Russian or German). I don't want anything too Biblical, since I am not at all religious. I like old fashioned, but I don't want to be too self-consciously old man. Any thoughts...?!

There are quite a lot of Edwards and Wifreds around.

Gilbert is OK, can't make my mind up about Lev, but think Emil is Ok.

How about: Roman, Konrad, Viktor, Nikita, Mischa, Sascha, Nicholas, Peter, Marek, Hans, Jens, Wulfram?

Wulfram is the best name ever, but I would have some fight on my hands trying to get DH to go for that! He was pretty scathing about Lev...

I feared that Wilfred had become trendy. I have never heard of Wilbraham...

Rex is actually pretty cool, but does it make you think of a cat?

Ebenezer is a bit scroogey!

I didn't say it was unheard of, just that it was ridiculous.
And pretentious and not very nice. IMHO.

I like Lev/Levi but as a jewish person I see it as a religious name!
Edward is on my list.

I love Nikolai, Josef, Yuri, Petr & Ivan/Vanya.

Brandon
Eddard
Joffrey

These are all from from a fantasy book series I love, and I think they are unusual but have 'normal' nicknames.
