Eileen Dover?

My mum's mn is Eileen and she has had a lifelong hatred for it I'm afraid - to the extent that she will only admit to it being an "E" name most of the time!

Not my cup of tea either blush.

Don't do it.

Tobermory Tue 07-Jun-11 12:44:33

A huge, great big NO from me.
No saving graces IMO

ragged Tue 07-Jun-11 14:15:59

yay, I like it smile. But it will polarise some.

valiumbandwitch Tue 07-Jun-11 14:56:27

No, I don't like it. I prefer 'Ellen' which seems like a simpler version... I think they are both versions of Helen.

However, five years ago I would have said eurgh eyooo to Kathleen, and now, something is making it seem a tiny bit more fashionable. Margaret, Kathleen and Eileen. I can see them coming back in soon.

I prefer Eily, an Irish nn for Eileen, and probably acceptable as a name in its own right.

Come On, Eileen? Really?

I kill myself, I really do !!

GwendolineMaryLacey Tue 07-Jun-11 15:40:10

Honestly, there are people calling their kids Beryl and you're worried about Eileen! grin It's fine.

AlfieandAnnieRose Tue 07-Jun-11 15:45:27

Pinkjenny Tue 07-Jun-11 15:47:35

Slainte Tue 07-Jun-11 15:48:37

I really love Eileen.

CandyS Tue 07-Jun-11 16:25:51

I knew an Elieen at school (I'm 23, to give you some perspective), she had a constant stream of people offering to come on her.

Would Alieen be too serial killer/alien-ish?

My gran's name was Eileen. To me it is a tad old fashioned.

pilates Tue 07-Jun-11 17:44:42

Is it a family name?

If so, perhaps have as a middle name?

PilgrimSoul Wed 08-Jun-11 00:40:34

Not keen, what about Eibhlin (Evelyn) another alternative to the Irish Ellen/Helen?

darleneoconnor Wed 08-Jun-11 02:57:55

I prefer Aileen or Elaine.

Lulabellarama Wed 08-Jun-11 11:11:07

I would bet good money that many of those 19 Eileen's last year were traveller girls. Tis very common name among the traveller community for little girls
