When I was pregnant with my daughter I really wanted to name her Calypso. It was opposed from every corner and I gave up. I don't regret this as I love my daughters' name but I often think, if I could give her a sister it would be Calypso. Anybody have a regret?

I don't really have a regret but my secret shameful name crush is, wait for it.......Romeo, ha ha! I think it sounds really pretty and romantic. Of course I could never use it but I think it sounds beautiful.

Yes, wish DS had a more unusual name, I like Courage and Storm but ex-H refused. I love my girls names though (stood my ground emoticon).

itsohsoquiet · 05/06/2011 22:03

I love Harper for a girl but would never use it as it is a bit 'out there'.
I imagine in a few years it will be a lot more popular but DP would never agree to it anyway.

Ria28 · 06/06/2011 01:59

I really like Merlin and Guinevere Grin but I think it'd be too cruel to use them.

rooks14 · 06/06/2011 05:02

One of my A levels was classics and i'd love to give my baby boy something fab with a good meaning like Achillies! Would never be that mean though!

I also LOVE Rocco for some reason...

Id DD2 had been a boy, DH and I love the name "Bear" but don't know if we would have been brave enough ... maybe Edward on the birth cert and Bear as a nn....

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 06/06/2011 06:05

My husband adores Judas for a boy, and has recently floated Madgalen for a girl.

Not that he's working through lapsed Catholic issues or anything, mind you Hmm

seeker · 06/06/2011 06:14

The important thing to remember is that you don't have to be brave to call a child something bonkers - the child has to be brave to go through 80 year of life called it!

Sharney · 06/06/2011 09:26

Too true seeker. Shitmagnet- middle name...... no idea, probably none as Calypso is such a strong name but any suggestions would be nice! :)

Isabel. I love the name, always have, but it is just soooo popular round here as are all its variants, I knew it would drive me mad. Perhaps I should have been a bit braver and just thought I don't care if people think it's unoriginal, I like it. I still have a little sigh whenever I meet an Isabel. Beautiful name.

Tortoise - Magdalen for a girl is lovely! I love the NN Maggie Smile.

FairyArmadillo · 06/06/2011 09:40

Loved the name Shiloh for a girl. Didn't want people to assume I was copying Angelina Jolie, who admittedly was the inspiration. She'd had her baby around the time. Baby turned out to be a boy. Considered names like Oberon and Orion but was worried that DS may not thank me for them in years to come! Did what I intended never to do and gave him a name I always loved but initially rejected because it was in the Baby Names Top 20 previous year.

emmanumber3 · 06/06/2011 09:58

Tinkerbell Blush.

Obviously, I'd never actually use it but I do really like it. Must be the pregnancy hormones turning my brain to mush!! Grin.

mrsravelstein · 06/06/2011 10:01

ds1 and I wanted to call ds2 'corbin' or 'caspar'.... dh made this face [hmmm]

mrsravelstein · 06/06/2011 10:02

we NEARLY called ds2 sufjan, but chickened out at the last minute

pinkmagic1 · 06/06/2011 10:10

I loved Ziggy for a boy!

purplefeet · 06/06/2011 12:20

Wanted to call DS Saul, but DH wouldn't let me.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 06/06/2011 12:23

We haven't actually ruled out Magdalen, to be honest.

He's still sulking about Judas, though.

urbanewarrior · 06/06/2011 12:24

I found one of our baby name lists the other day. I loved Liberty and India. Not a chance with DP. I still heart Liberty but he thinks it's a bit American crusades.

Love Madgalen.

nickelbabe · 06/06/2011 12:25

I like Amethyst or Afrika for a girl.

and I was talking a couple of weeks ago about using a proper old-fashioned name for a boy - like Obidiah etc.

nickelbabe · 06/06/2011 12:25

I meant : Obediah (can't type, sorry!)

seeker · 06/06/2011 12:53

Nickelbabe - if you call your baby Amethyst, I will not be answerable for the consequences - and I know where you live!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grin

don't worry, it was a name I loved when I was a teenager! Grin

stardustn · 06/06/2011 13:34

The names I love aren't too outlandish but there's always something that puts me off- I think Saoirse is gorgeous for example but I'm just not brave enough to use it because of the spelling and pronounciation issues it would cause, and having gone through life with noone able to pronounce my name I'm paranoid about making sure my childrens' names are easy to say and spell.

I also love the name Tierney for a girl, but some baby name websites say it's a boys' name and I know it can be seen as a surname. It's not my usual style of name at all but I keep coming back to it.

GetDownYouWillFall · 06/06/2011 13:38

I love the name Jubilee for a girl, but just couldn't do it.
