Don't want DD to be spelling it all the time so what would you class as the 'default' spelling?

squeak2392 Fri 03-Jun-11 19:55:00

Darcy.

itsohsoquiet Fri 03-Jun-11 19:56:33

I would say Darcy

WhereIsTheFire Fri 03-Jun-11 23:46:23

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I thought Darcy was the male/surname version and Darcey was the more usual girls version. No idea if that is right or not though, so not much help really! Lovely name though.

d'Arcy wink

I prefer the look of Darcy, though the little girl I know is Darcey, as is of course Ms Bussell.

Darcy - I like it but lots of people on here don't. My mythical dd3 is called Marianne Darcy!

LeonardNimoy Sat 04-Jun-11 09:52:16

I toothink Darcy is the surname - the girls name is Darcey

runnermum2 Sat 04-Jun-11 14:40:38

grin at d'Arcy

blackchloe Sat 04-Jun-11 20:55:55

DD2 due in 3 weeks and we are going for Darcey smile

seeksnewnamewithgsoh Sat 04-Jun-11 21:01:21

DD is Darcey. It looks right, and Darcy looks like a surname. And the most famous Darcey spells it that way.

But we get Darcy, Darcie, Darcee and one D'Arcy. Even after a birth announcement card which noone reads anyway and a Christening invitation.

I don't think this name is 'conventional' enough to have a standard spelling. Not enough people have heard of enough Darceys for there to be a right way.

Darsey

BatFlattery Sat 04-Jun-11 21:13:31

grin at Darsey...

Darcy, to me Darcey looks like an unnecessary 'e'.

catwhiskers10 Sat 04-Jun-11 21:13:38

I'd say Darcy is the 'default' spelling but I've also seen it spelled Darcie.

LemoryMane Sat 04-Jun-11 21:15:03

Darcy looks classier to me. Don't ask me why.

grubbalo Sun 05-Jun-11 10:14:31

I know you were joking GetOrf, but we definitely have a bona fide D'Arcy round here...

Personally, I'd go for Darcy.

manicinsomniac Sun 05-Jun-11 11:25:52

My friend called her daughter Darcy and, a week later, was told Darcy was a boy and Darcey a girl so she changed the spelling.

I don't know if her source was correct though.

I think Darcy is a boys Christian name in the US.
I have a Darcey,I suppose we just coppied Miss Bussell.

devonsmummy Sun 05-Jun-11 16:07:40

I have a Darcy
we were originally going with Darcie but every new baby card we received had 'Darcy' so we went with that to save having to spell it everytime.

Funnily enough since then we have cards with Darcy, Darcie and Darcey!
but the majority still spell it Darcy

deste Sun 05-Jun-11 19:42:14

My DM had a Darcy but it was a cat. He was a he mind you.

Jonnyfan Sun 05-Jun-11 23:34:06

It's getting quite common round here! D'Arcy usually.
