For DS3 due next week.

We have a traditional Irish surname, and would like a traditional Irish first name too.

Please tell me your favourite Irish boys name.

Thank you!

Rory or Oscar - I can't have either as we know somebody called Rory/Ruairi and my friend named her LO Oscar [envious]. Ciaran is lovely too.

Thank you.

Cormac is currently top of our list, we also have Darragh, Declan, Derry and Cillian (although I can never say it properly)

I love the name Sean after someone suggested it on here ages ago, but DP said No repeatedly to the idea.

redflagsahoy Fri 03-Jun-11 18:28:24

I like Donnacha Darragh and Cillian, Aodh is nice too. I'm with your DH Sean is very overused, its a nice name though. Good luck with your little baby smile

irishqueen Fri 03-Jun-11 18:30:40

Yey - I win! Cormac is easy to pronounce as well as spell! Total winner! Sean is nice but there are gazillions of them. I like Seamus too

I met a baby Cian recently, and I like it. I think it is sometimes spelt Kian?

RueLaChesty Fri 03-Jun-11 20:26:32

Cillian is my favourite irish name (and second fave boys name) i'd go with that, although like Daragh too!

Darragh. By a mile. But it was nicked by DH's cousin, so we went with Rory. MIL still hasn't forgiven us for the anglicised spelling <did I just make up a word there?>

Oisin or Brendan

PrisonerZero Sat 04-Jun-11 09:42:51

DP loves Seamus, I think it sounds cute with our surname too but we haven't had a very good response from friends. Which is why we haven't bothered telling them any other names we like!

I like Brendan but again DP says no - the problem with him having such a big family is that everyone has 'stolen' the names grin

I can't stop saying Cillian as Kill-ann, when I think its supposed to be Kill-e-an.

gapants Sat 04-Jun-11 09:45:34

Forgive my ignorance but can someone tell me how to say the following names-

Aodh
Tadgh

Thank you.

I like Oisin the best so far

KenDoddsDadsDog Sat 04-Jun-11 09:56:53

Tadgh is like teig, my DH's accent sounds like taig.
I'm sure some native Irish speakers will be along to correct me though!
