Me and dh have come up with a list of fav names for soon to be dd1 but not sure which combinations to go for, which two would you put together? Thankyou.
We are thinking short first name and longer middle name

Isla
Francesca
Eve
Claudia
Lila
Lily
Alexandra
Kate
Olivia

Any ideas?

Lila or Isla as first and Francesca for middle.

Personally I would lose Eve, Lily and Olivia as every other girl is called one of those names here - just my experience.

Isla - I have one but is getting v popular if that bothers you!

Isla Francesca is nice

Quite like Lila. Kate is ok, prefer if Katherine on bc. Not massively keen on others.

Sorry, should have said Eve is also very nice, or Eva but don't like Evie, which might put me off Eve.

Eve Alexandra sounds good.

Isla - Nice
Francesca - Don't like
Eve - Don't like
Claudia - Hate this
Lila -Too many 'L' sounds
Lily - Lovely and timeless elegance
Alexandra - Nice but hate shortnening to 'Alex'
Kate - Ok
Olivia - Lovely, classy

Are you concerned about the popularity of your name choice? If so Eve, Olivia, Lily and Isla are very popular here right now.

Francesca is a lovely name and easily adapted to suit the personality of the child eg Fran, Frankie, Cesca etc depending if they are girly or more of a tom boy.

Isla - love
Francesca - my favourite - love Franny as a nn
Eve - sooo popular
Claudia - I like this
Lila - way too popular
Lily - unbelievably popular
Alexandra - lovely
Kate - love it but would always put Katherine/Catherine on bc
Olivia - I love this but it is number one which would put me off

I would go for Francesca Isla, Alexandra Isla or Catherine Isla - long names first imo.

Kate Alexandra or Alexandra Kate would be my first choice as classic and not such 'fashionable' names as some of the others.

Second choice Francesca or Claudia.

Definitely not the ubiquitous Olivia, Lily or Eve.
Not Lila either - it just makes me think of 'lilo' (as in airbed) and people will think it is Lola all the time.

Thanks everyone.
Francesca is one of our favourites, love Isla too but surname starts with G,which doesnt look very nice on school pics/work,if written down as Isla G.

Would this put you off?

Sylvaniasandwich Mon 30-May-11 19:17:50

No, I think that is overthinking it. By the time she gets to an age when that might matter, nobody will be labelling her artwork as such.

Thats very true! Just have to decide on a middle name now.

Very hard to choose because they are all lovely.

Dont' think you can go wrong with any of them.

ChippingIn Tue 31-May-11 18:37:54

It took me a minute to work out what was wrong with Isla G... but given that I'd avoid it, upper primary kids are all too familiar with words like slag and at that age her work may still be being named like that.

Isla
Francesca
Eve
Claudia
Lila
Lily
Alexandra
Kate
Olivia

None of your names would be my first choice, but out of them I would go with Kate (Caitlin?).

Middle name depends on the length/sound of your surname... so hard to say.

oohlaalaa Tue 31-May-11 18:42:36

Isla - not sure now you have said Isla G, sorry.
Francesca - Frankie is a nice nn. Not over keen though. Its just a bit frilly
Eve - love
Claudia - sorry, I find it pretentious
Lila - too close to Lilo
Lily - love
Alexandra - love
Kate - love
Olivia - like

meditrina Tue 31-May-11 18:47:02

Katharine Alexandra (with nn Kate) is my favourite by a long way.

Other nice combinations are Alexandra Eve and Francesca Eve.

Wottywot Tue 31-May-11 19:11:12

Isla - Not much
Francesca - ok
Eve - a bit too common (as in too many called it)
Claudia - no
Lila - no
Lily - ok
Alexandra - ok
Kate - yes but prefer Katie
Olivia - yes
