I know an Alastair (Scottish) and Alasdair (Scottish roots, quite posh). Both are okay I think.

Any variations with a "t" in them are Anglicised versions of Alasdair

Alasdair is the original Gaelic name - so therefore the proper spelling, IMO.

Either. last year in Scotland there were 22 x Alastair and 24 x Alasdair. Alistair is the most common spelling of the name, there were 37 of them...

If you're considering it as a name for your baby, just be aware that you'll be spending your whole life saying, "now that's Alasdair with a D. No, D. A-l-a-D..."

I have an alasdair ( ally) but yes do have to spell it sometimes- doesn't bother me , as all versions are " proper" - think catherine/ Katherine, not courtney/ cortnee!!

They're both legitimate spellings.

I would spell it Alasdair. Don't know whether that is the original spelling though. Not much help. Sorry.

Both are fine.

I prefer Alasdair, like the wonderful Scottish folk singer Alasdair Roberts.

Both spellings are 'correct' just don't get two precious.

I know lots of them from babyhood up to senior colleagues and there are actually about 5 accepted spellings. It is very hard to keep track of who uses what.

I would just pick the one you like.

I agree that an Alasdair will spend their life correcting people's spellings of his name :( It is lovely though!
