I've finally found a girl name I like - Artemisia (it's Persian). But DP wants to know what it could be shortened to as a nickname, ideas?

Is Arty just for boys? I don't like missy.

Ithink Artemisia is Italian - there was a 16thC painter called Artemisia Gentileschi, she was Italian.

I don't think it is pretentious, a bit poncey maybe, but nothing wrong with poncey names in my book.

I would necessarily choose a name based on what the shortened versions are likely to me. Nicknames come from nowhere and have no basis in logic. My dd is called Sophia and her nickname (for obscure reasons) is Johnny.

oohlalaa - yes I am Iranian, and my first, middle and surname is persian. Thanks. Because of this, I don't want to give up my heritage completely, just because I am living in England. (I am aware that Scherezadea is actually the turkish version of Sharzahd, i just like it!)

Artemisia I was a Grand Admiral in the Persian Army, ruler of Helicarnissus the greek state under the king Xerxes.

She'd have DP's English surname, but I think it goes well. If it's a boy he'll be called Cyrus :)

oooh, i love Mia :) Temi is a bit close to Tammy, which makes me think of the shop haha. Timmy is a nice idea too. Ahh, I LOVE MN :o

I wanted an inspirational name, a powerful/great woman. The other idea is Shirin, who is the first female judge in Iran and won a Nobel peace prize for her efforts in womens rights there. but Shirin was my grandmother, so that rules it out lol

Scheherezadea - seeing that you are Iranian the name is not pretentious at all. My best friends mother is Italian, and she has a very long and unusual Italian name. If both parents were English, I'd find it pretentious, but I thinks its nice as first name and surname celebrate both parents heritage.

getorfmoicase Scheherezadea is the princess in 1001 nights, who tells the stories of Sinbad, Aladdin etc. It's not my name, I wish it were! It's actually turkish i think, the Persian is Sharzahd but I don't think that's as pretty. I did suggest Scheherezadea, but DP quickly shot it down, as both his mum & sister are quite dyslexic!

It was actually a last ditch attempt at finding a username on here that wasn't taken..!

LRD -I looked it up as a plant name cause I noticed it on a google search, but i think it's a collection of plant species right, that includes tarragon and sage aswell as wormwood?

I secretly quite like the absinthe link too, although I wouldn't mention that to my (religious, teetotal) family, lol
