Baby names

Who has gone with the MN majority on a baby name?

I do love nosing through the baby name threads and occasionally judging offering suggestions. But I'm not sure I'd actually submit any baby names myself!

I wondered how many people have gone with the MN majority when asking for opinions and has anyone come up with names which MNers have made you realise were madness?

In a round about way, yes.

I liked a name, dp liked a crap different one.

Asked for opinions on here, my name won thankfully and dp went with it.

I've picked up ideas from looking through other peoples posts and listened to advice from other members.

I've decided against certain names, and got ideas.

I think many people actually avoid names that most love as these will by definition be more popular names.

Do people really rely on a random bunch of internetters to determine their child's name? Really? What if the posters have completely different tastes to you?

I'm currently using this forum as a sounding board because we're stuck and we need something to tip us one way or the other! I wouldn't necessarily go with the majority unless it was overwhelming, but if someone pointed out something we'd not thought of even if it was just one person saying it, that might be the thing to swing it.

evamummy I didn't pick the name because other mnetters liked it, I just hated the one dp loved and knew 99.9% of people on here would agree with me. - told dp that if enough people on here liked his choice I would consider it.
If they had hated my choice I would of gone with it anyway.

I'm in Ireland and find most peoples tastes are v different to the 'norm' where i live, esp boys names- lots of Albert, George, Alfie type names which people would actually laugh at here, not because they're not nice names but just because they are so different to wat people go for around here. So I dont really expect most mn-ers to have similar tastes- but i usually nosey anyway and offer my opinions.
