Would Jacob always be a Jake?

hiya, I am due in a few weeks and we have a boys name shortlist with Jacob as a frontrunner. We love the name and DH is comfortable with it being shortened (not by us!!) to Jake but I'm not so keen.
Do you think a Jacob would always end up being called Jake and I would be one of those mothers who is the only one to call him Jacob??!! If this is the case we might need to go back to our list....

My Jacob has never been a Jake. I call him Jay, at school he is Jacob to everyone. My brother used to call him Jake until the child told him to stop getting his name wrong.

I have never heard of Jacob being shortened to Jake. Dd has a lovely Jacob in her class and he has never been a Jake

I have a 12 yo Jacob. I sometimes call him Jakey but he doesn't get called Jake.

My Jacob won't be a Jake either! If I can help it, we are in Scotland where Jakey means Alkie that put me off a bit but I still love the name and he so suits it.

I've known two Jacobs. Neither were ever shortened by anybody.

I think if you gently but firmly correct anyone who slips a Jake in, the message will soon get through. Most people will follow the parents' lead.

Of course, he may chose to call himself Jake in later years but that's his decision.

I have a Swiss uncle Jacob. His nn is Kirbe - all Swiss nn have to end in 'y' sound apparently?

Mine is Jake, but gets called Jacob :) or Jakey, i'm in scotland too Kitty, but i try not to think of that I'm happy with either, i wanted to name him Jacob, but DH wanted Jake, so he gets called either now :)

Another with a Jacob that has never been a Jake to anyone, when he was little we called him Jakey but never Jake. Sometimes his friends call him Jay its a great name :)

The Jacob in my extended family has never been called Jake, or any shorter form of the name at all, by anyone!

I don't know any Jacob's but I often hear 'Jacob!' being called by kids, so I would assume it would only get shortened if you/he agreed to it.

I know two Jacob s one 8 and one nineteen and they have both always been called Jacob ,not shortened at all.

My ds1 is Jacob. The only person I have ever heard call him Jake is my dad, but that soon stopped once I told him his name is Jacob.
If ds1 wants to use Jake or any other nn when he is old enough to decide, that's fine but until then, it's Jacob.
(I will always call him git-bag Jacob)
