If a girl, what do you think of the name Agatha? Is it too old-fashioned? 'Her' brother is called Charles.

monkeyplayszeebongos Wed 27-Apr-11 19:20:44

like it alot!

WinkyWinkola Wed 27-Apr-11 19:21:17

I think it an ugly name.

mandoo Wed 27-Apr-11 19:22:10

Aggie is sweet, not sure I would go for the full on Agatha.

mazzi2fly Wed 27-Apr-11 19:22:18

I don't like it at all

takewhatyoucan Wed 27-Apr-11 19:22:27

I actually really like it, it's not a name I have considered before!

deemented Wed 27-Apr-11 19:23:15

Not keen, sorry.

takewhatyoucan Wed 27-Apr-11 19:23:18

Although, wasn't the horrible head mistress in Matilda called Agatha?

Knofje Wed 27-Apr-11 19:24:50

Love it.

Not so keen on Aggie, Thea was our choice of NN.

LetThereBeRock Wed 27-Apr-11 19:27:49

It's hideous.

theagedparent Wed 27-Apr-11 19:30:02

I have an Agatha, beautiful name x

Hatterbox Wed 27-Apr-11 19:30:46

It's absolutely beautiful and much better then most of the popular (i.e. boring) names people use today.

Go for it!

llamallama88 Wed 27-Apr-11 19:31:00

Yeah, that's partly what I'm worried about. It's also the name of the really strict aunt in Bertie Wooster. I think she could be stereotyped.

Tolalola Wed 27-Apr-11 19:35:52

Don't like it at all, sorry. I think it's ugly.

Not really, how about Matilda?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows Thu 28-Apr-11 15:33:21

I like it. Depends on your accent, though.

mamma2boyz Thu 28-Apr-11 15:34:37

I think it is lovely, know an almost 4yo Agatha...Aggie for short and she is adorable...much less common than Matilda...
Also know an Agnes who is cute

smother Thu 28-Apr-11 15:40:46

Not at all keen, I like this type of name but I don't like the sound of Agatha.... prefer Agnes, Ines, Anthea, Edith, Tabitha, Martha.... not sure if that helps at all.

virginiasmonalogue Thu 28-Apr-11 16:01:52

I think it's lovely!

ggirl Thu 28-Apr-11 16:08:36

I prefer Agnes or Agnetha.
My gran was Agnes .

salvadory Thu 28-Apr-11 16:18:56

I love this name but couldn't convince my dh.
I work with a lovely one in her early 40's (agie is her preferred nn).
However she hates her name and always has simply because she was always the only one. She has deliberately picked top ten names for her girls as a result.
I think it's supposed to be having a bit of a revival among well heeled Catholics but I've yet to hear of a baby one here in Manchester.

I really love Agnetha and Agnes.

BeeMyBaby Thu 28-Apr-11 18:46:58

I think Agata (Polish version I think) is absolutely lovely, and obviously can still have Aggie as a nn.
