What do you think? We don't like any of the usual long versions - maxim/maximillian/maximus etc etc but do like Maddox....What does everyone think?

Have you rejected Maxwell? Or the French name Maxence?

Think it's fine and I love Maddox

Maxence is lovely, and virtually unheard of in the UKSmile

I think Max from Maddox is going a little too far, plus you'll always be reminded of the 'Jolie-Pitt tribe' whenever someone asks your sons name!

Maxell, Maxfield, Maxin, Maxley, Maxston, Maxwell ...the possibilities appear to be endless!

We do like Maxwell but Kerry catona's little boy is called that which put us off completely. It seems that every lengthy version reminds us of something - Maximillian - the fact that it has 'million' in it, Maxston - Michael Jackson, Maxley - the 'Lee' sound is too strong....urgh, there's just no pleasing some people lol. Failing that we have a few others....

Harrison nn Harry
Harvey
Oscar
Ethan
Jacob nn Jake
Evan

DS is Maximilian (no million there) and I haven't met anyone who deosn;t like it and thinks it suits him. He is the only one that we know - haven't heard of Maxston or Maxley but they sound a bit made up and stupid!

Sorry think Maddox is awful too - would be called mad.

Mind you I think Oscar (as long as not Ozzie) is the only one that I actually like on your list.

I am usually in the 'give the kid the proper name on the birth certificate' camp, but I feel compelled to point out that Max is actually a legitimate name in its own right and not just a nickname (at least in Germany it is). My great grandfather was a 'just Max' and there are loads of others. It needs a long middle name to balance it though!

I have a Max and he is just Max.

He loves having a cool short name and says he would recommend it to anyone!

His little brother now just wants a short name so he is thinking what he would like to be called!

I'm amused to see that you've rejected Maxwell because Kerry Katona has used it, yet you are OK with Harvey .... so you're not put off by Jordan then? :o

Agree Careful Harvey and Harrison are of that ilk.

Or you could just do what I do and never ever read anything about these people, therefore I have no idea what their kids are called and couldn't give a toss anyway! Max is a great name however you get there.

...Maximo

I like Maddox. I think Max works well as a nn. Maxim and Maxen are other possibilities.

I like Oscar, Jacob and Evan from your list.

I like Maxim but is it not a lads' mag?!

Do not like Maddox, does sound very much like celeb idolising to me. Sorry.

Could he be 'just' Max?

I have a Max but gave him the middle name Alexander so it didn't seen to plain IFYSWIM. I really wouldn't bother with a long version if you don't like them.

Maddox sounds nothing like Max but i do like the name.

I have a Max (just Max) and his brothers are Lucas and Theo if those are any help?

chandellina · 30/04/2011 21:10

i have a Maxwell - i've found it really handy to have that extra syllable when I am using my "telling off" voice.

I don't think anyone is going to mistake him or me for anything to do with Kerry Katona!

max as diminutive of maddox doesnt work
maddox is one of angelina's weans.so no smacks of trying too hard.and failing

Just Max!

Report
Adair · 30/04/2011 21:53

Yeah, do bear in mind that every time he is called at doctors etc, they use his full name. Is bit weird hearing Maxim when he is just Max to us. or baby Max. or Maximax (not suggesting that as a full name btw Wink).

I like Max but not Maddox. Also like Ethan, Jacob, Evan. Harry/Harrison is OK. Not keen on Oscar or Harvey.
