Whilst we only have one boys name I love the following for a girl. Middle name will be Vera, whilst I know it's not a popular choice it was my Nan's name who died when I was a young child so wanted to include it if we have a girl.
Just wondered what you thought, Olivia is my favourite but it's so popular in my area so not so sure! I love old fashioned names though so here we are:

Olivia
Amelie
Lyla
Elsie
Betsy
Ava
Juliet
Claudia
Eve

Love all the names except for Betsy and Claudia- Olivia is currently the most common girls name and Ava is beginning to follow suit! I especially like Lyla and Amelie both pretty names and fairly unusual. x

Juliet is lovely.

I love Betsy, but it should really be short for something - Elizabeth? Beatrice?

Ava, Amelie, Lyla - fashion mames. No.

I love the name Iris for a girl. I think Ava is beautiful, and love Elsie. Old fashioned names are the best Smile

All the names with the exception of Olivia and Betsy would be because of people who mean a lot to either myself or DH.
My best friend is Amelia but we thought Amelie was a little nicer, Ava and Layla were in DHs family but we both prefer Lyla over Layla.
Now I really love Beatrice shortened to Betsy!

Juliet and Claudia are lovely.

I think Amelie Juliet or Claudia go best with Vera. Besty Vera and Elsie Vera - just a little too old ladyish IMO.
Ava, Olivia and Eve - too many V's with Vera.

Olivia - Olivia Vera has a lovely ring to it. Olivia is very popular for a reason - it's a lovely name.
Amelie - I think Amelie is a bit wispy and insignificant as a name. I like Emilia better.
Layla - nice and goes well with Vera.
Elsie - Elsie makes me think of milking maids and scullery maids.
Betsy - Betsy is nice but I would use Elizabeth on the BC in case there's another nn she would like to use or in case she would like to use the formal name later in life.
Ava - Ava Vera has a lot of Vs running into each other. Ava is nice though imo.
Juliet - Lovely and goes very well with Vera.
Claudia - Claudia always sounds rather harsh to me but it goes well with Vera in the same way that Olivia does imo.
Eve - The two Vs sound clunky together and you have to come to a complete stop in the middle or run them together.

Olivia - I don't think Olivia Vera "flows" well as the names are too similar
Amelie - why not Amelia?
Lyla - Lilo
Elsie - quite like
Betsy - not keen, a bit girly
Ava - nice but extremely popular together with Eve/Eva/Evie
Juliet - lovely, like this best from your list :)
Claudia - dislike
Eve - see Ava

Olivia is lovely, but doesn't go well with Vera IMO.

Amelie, hmm, I'm just not keen on this.

Lyla, I don't like.

Elsie, I don't like.

Betsy is lovely. I would use this as a nn for Elizabeth, which I adore!

Ava - beautiful, but be aware, there's lots of Ava's/Eva's/Eve's/Evie's about. Lovely names though.

Juliet is gorgeous!

Claudia, I love this too.

Eve is such a beautiful, elegant name, but as with Ava is very popular (for good reason) so if this bothers you don't use it. I'm not sure that Eve flows well with Vera too - it sounds like eee vera (just like us good ole northerners say Wink)

Olivia- Very popular and doesn't go well with Vera IMO, too similar sounding
Amelie- Too popular
Lyla- Not keen, sounds made up and also a bit like Lycra
Elsie- Love and goes well with Vera.
Betsy- A bit to old-ladyish unless its short for Elizabeth in which case lots of nm choices and goes well with Vera
Ava- Too popular and does not go with Vera at all
Juliet- Quite like this classic and strong, goes well with Vera
Claudia- Too posh IMO
Eve- Very popular but still like, doesn't go well with Vera though

If you threw in Lillian before Vera then Eve and Ava would be nice. But Juliet is beautiful either with just Vera or with Lillian in there too.

Wouldn't do Ava or Eve with Vera.

Juliet/Juliette is lovely, Beatrice is coming up the popularity stakes, as is Amelie and Elsie; Olivia is already very popular.

how do you feel about Juliana? A bit different and offers more scope for nns?

Report
babybear1983 · 19/01/2011 19:51

I like Juliana, DH has said no!

With Juliette I was thinking of a nn of Lettie which I think is quite sweet.

How about Letitia?

Not a big fan i'm afraid, reminds me of the actress who played Sharon in Eastenders.
