Baby names

Anyone else married to a copper and having this problem

Okay our first baby and we're pretty much agreed on name if we have a girl but man am I hitting a brick wall with boys names!

Here's how the conversation goes..... me 'how about (insert name)?' him 'drug dealer' me 'oh my okay what about....' him 'shoplifter' and so it goes on.

I also find it ironic that all the names I like are biblical - the Isaacs, Gabriels etc. but apparently all very popular in the criminal underworld!

Wonder if there is any name I can come up with that he hasn't arrested!

Not very helpful I know but that is hilarious! Grin Good luck choosing a name you both like and this is one genuine reason you could keep your fingers crossed for a girl!

Congratulations on your baby

You need something very very rare then so that he's never come across it. Can you surf the lower ends of the ONS list? www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/Product.asp?vlnk=15282

Does he have any suggestions?

My DH is a music nut and so references all names to songs he likes/doesn't like and the sometimes unsavoury conotations. Like Lola and Pictures of Lily. And Mustang Sally, Alice, I could go on.

I feel your pain.

I did try and go very leftfield with Alban - the first English Christian martyr and I thought that was pretty obscure. Bloody surname of one of his 'regulars'!

Ha ha Boo - think he'd have palpitations if I suggested Jesus. Just to add to the mix I count myself as Christian and he's a full blown atheist!

In fact I may do it anyway just to see his face Grin

DS has the same name (first and last name) as a copper that was shot and killed (loads of media coverage 7 years ago).

Talk about a bad omen, but it's still a good name, iyswim. As long as the baby won't share the first and last names of any of his regulars, what's it matter? Does he intend to tell his regulars what his children are called?

"Persephone- drunk in charge of a ferret"
:o brilliant!

I had the same problem and DH is a computer geek! Mum and DSis are both teachers though and always knew some little urchin with the name I liked!

Carp you wouldn't say it was brilliant if you'd seen the fall out. You see they didn't notice at first. It was curled up asleep in her hands. They dismissed it as an ornate hand muff. Until it bit off the nose of one of the sergeants. It was a terrible day.

And if you're laughing, you're a cruel and heartless person.

Noses don't grow back Carp.

Give him the baby name book and tell him to have a think.

How about Endeavour?

I'm weeping Show, weeping. That's a terrible story, the poor sergeant. How does he smell?

Yep, DH is a teacher:

Megan - bully

Ella - bullied

Charlie - ex-public school-boy now in comprehensive sixth form and got a chip on his shoulder about it. Frequent run-ins with teaching staff.

Jeremy - had a crush on DH at his last school. You can NOT name your child after a schoolboy with a crush on his teacher

Even the names of good students get ruled out because DH will be reminded of them and it will be weird.

Then there are the names DH likes, which are all either bonkers or are cat and dog names. Some of them are the names of his cats and dogs from childhood!

So we're stuck :)

I have one grandparent who is a Gypsy. He married a gorjer (non-gypsy) and lives in a house, but various family members are travellers.

Some of them have criminal records, and on this side of my family they all have biblical names, there is an Eli (Elijah), Michael, Amos, and Danny (Daniel) to name just a few.

I had the same problem as I've always worked with children and families within SS/Child Protection/Young Offenders etc so the majority of names were a no-no.

Oh yes, you've just reminded me - my granddad's name was Sidney and we both had about a month of really liking Sid for a boy (we have no boy names). Then I told my friend who manages a maximum security men's prison which takes a lot of travellers (due to the area it's in). She said that Sidney is a popular name among the travelling community and that she works with a lot of Sidneys in prison. Also Frank (another name we quite liked).

Not sure it's put me off, but if we went for this name every time I saw her I'd think of it!

DH works with young offenders so loads of names were off the list, Joshua was especially popular amounst the naughty boys for some reason. I am a vet so more potential names were struck off (eg Stanley the dog that constantly had his willy stuck out etc etc). A nightmare!
