do you like Lois?

only ttc at the moment but interested in opinions.

i really struggle with girl's names, but somehow during a late night conversation DH and I discovered we actually both liked the above as a name for imaginary dc2 if a girl.

would be Lois Catherine (surname).

thanks in advance. have namechanged for this just in case of encountering my rl friends. :)

very stuck for potential boy names, that'll be another thread soon!

Love it. Was 2nd choice for dd2's middle name (ended up with Erin).

I really like it. Imaginary number 3 could be a Lois...

i think it is elegant and pretty, and i know 2 under 4 and they are so cute and delightful.

I do like it BUT my mother's a teacher and has a Lois she tutors which just invites 'that's cos she's the Lois in her class' jokes from my siblings who live at home/pop in frequently.

So long as it's Lois Griffin not Lois Lane.

piprabbit - DH does like a bit of Family Guy, yes!

Phew - couldn't be doing with Lois Lane as a role model myself.

although I'm pretty sure he wanted to be Superman as a little boy, he didn't appear to give a crap about Ms Lane. :)

I always mishear it as Lewis. Not keen.

I love it. Though i personally like the Lois Lane idea. She was a fab role model. She was a daring Investigative Reporter. A real career girl who was also v attractive (or supposed to be!) I like Terri Hatcher in the role best.

How could you ask for a better role model?

I like it. Lois Catherine would be a lovely name :)

thanks, seems mostly positive then.

all i need to do now is get pregnant again. :-)

tbh i can't remember the movie Lois much, think Teri Hatcher would be who I'd picture!

I like it a lot. I also like the longer version Eloise.

The mum in Malcolm in the Middle is a Lois too - must be popular in America!

I like it if it is pronounced sounding like 'voice' and not the female version of 'Lewis'.

TBOM: do you mean "Loice"?

I've only ever heard it pronounced Low-is.

Report
snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 21:01

i think I've only heard it the 'Low-iss' way.

embarrassingly i don't really know the origins of the name or how it 'should' sound. Blush

tried to look it up there but my phone couldn't cope with the page i loaded!

I've hear people say Loice instead of Lice when talking about headlice - must be an accent, but I'm not sure where it comes from.
