Is a double-barelled name, classed as one or two names?

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights Thu 30-Dec-10 23:46:33

Do you mean surname? Or first? Is it hyphenated?

Christmasbelle Thu 30-Dec-10 23:48:57

First and hyphenated. Any ideas wink

cece Thu 30-Dec-10 23:49:56

Not sure but guessing it would count as one.

Hyphenated first name classed as one I think

One name, but are we talking of the Peggy-Sue ilk here? Are you really sure it's a good idea?

Nightstar Fri 31-Dec-10 01:10:49

If it's hyphenated it is one name. Same with surname. But honestly, it's generally a bad idea unless something v short

Thanks everyone. I thought it would be classed as one. Do you think this is also the case if it was a middle name? smile

Think it could be.

Thanks everyone. Does that mean you would only use one initial for it or both initials that make up the name - I am a little unsure confused

You would use both initials, so Peggy-Sue would be P.-S.
