dd is 7 and has lovely name that everyone raised eyebrows at when we had her. There are a few now though so I like to think I started a trend.

Can anyone give me the names they would like to name their dc if they were brave enough. I am not a 'chav' btw but just don't want a name that I have some previous connection to....tricky as I live in a big village with a big school.

so ladies ..go for it please.

the names i thought were 'cool' when i was naming my children weren't names I was 'allowed' to use. (Wouldn't use an o name now but 8 years ago I wanted to)
but here goes

Victor, Howie, Thaddeus, Saul, Bruno, Frederick/*Fritz* Patrick/*Patch*

Maggie, Dulcie, Vivien, Hazel, Meryl, Miriam, Greta, Lois, Clio

Somebody will laugh their head off at my choices now. Girls are so much easier.

thank you VS, DH is the one saying you can;t name a child that but I have a fairly unusual name and I like being different. My dd suits her name and people still say what a lovely name..its just hard to find another one because of this chav culture.

What is her name?
These are all names I love, and would use, but are maybe more unusual

Persephone, Primrose, Maude, Veronica, Thomasina, Shifra, Esmeralda, Margot, Tabitha, Winifred, Erica, Prudence, Perdita

Arnold, Bertram, Cosmo, Merlin, Basil, Murdo, Douglas, Malcolm, Gregory, Ariel, Boaz, Murray, Lev.

For a girl Dixie, Nellie, Coco, Billie, Dulcie.

Boys names are harder. Roman (a handful of these at DS's school), Saul, Sol, Rudy.

Her name is willow, I love it , it suits her and it's different but not crazy.. I realise it has been on the chav list but I do not live anywhere chavesque and like I say we named her before all this chav rubbish started. My favourite names are misty (girl ) and Felix or Sebastian but dh likes none of them.. I just want something I have never heard of yet is neither chav or pretentious . Names are so Personal , it makes it kind of tricky .

Btw , I like sorrell , Dixie and billie ( not good with willow though)

worldgonemad72 Mon 06-Dec-10 20:54:49

Cant think of a cool name for a girl, but for boys i love beau, thor, tor, Finlay and Sid (i know it doesn't fit with the others but i love it). I named my son Baylin.

bishboschone Mon 06-Dec-10 21:03:17

I love beau.. Not sure dh will go for that though .. How did you find baylin ? I have seen a few unusual name books but they seem to be full of foreign sounding names.. I like the earthy ness of willow , if that makes sense.

I came across a girl's name, Persis, in one of the Anne of Green Gables series recently - thought that sounded cool but easy to spell and pronounce.

Btw, love Willow

We looked for hours on the net, my dh found it as he wanted a name that meant something to him, but a bit different. I had to draw the line at fenris lol. I love the name willow aswel.

Rowan Rowan Rowan - for either sex, one name & you're done, easy!

BarbieLovesKen Mon 06-Dec-10 21:53:46

Willow is gorgeous

zisforzebra Mon 06-Dec-10 21:56:17

I was going to suggest Rowan as well. It would go really nicely with Willow.

I really wanted Nathanial for DS2 but got over-ruled. I also really liked Seth for a boy. Our girl list was Evelyn and Eliza but neither got used as we only have boys.

Rowan - nice name though it is - has been rendered uncool for the forseeable future by the Archbishop of Canterbury, I'm afraid.

llareggub Mon 06-Dec-10 23:08:53

I love the name Agatha. If I had a girl I'd use it, definitely.

Look, we did this already for Arizonagirl, huge thread here grin

FYI, the name chosen was Skyler. Which was because it is the best name of them all <not biased at ALL emoticon>
