hey guys!

what does everyone think of Orla-Rayne? me and OH cant decide so as a comprimise i suggested putting our 2 fave names together so what does everyone think? i dont want to ask friends and family yet so honest opinions please!

also do you think it needs a middle name? i promised my friend baby would take her name (louise)as a middle name but i wasnt banking on a double barrelled first name!

Really like the name Orla (couldn't use it myself as someone close to me is called this). Do not like Orla-Rayne at all. Dislike Rayne as a name, but also dislike hyphenated names too.

Sorry, you did ask!

Orla Louise is sweet Xmas Smile

No. It sounds like "Or Lorraine?" like you're asking a question.

And I really dislike Rayne as a first name.

I love both names individually... But unfortunately together they sound rather like 'Our Lorraine'. Sorry, I know it's horrible when you really like a name and someone is negative. Who likes Orla and who likes Rayne?

Oh Lorraine!
Orla-Rayne in Spain falls mainly on the Plain!

Not fond, sorry.

Much prefer Louise.

Was going to say the same as Soupdragon - it sounds like "or Lorraine".

I dont like Rayne to be honest and really, really hate hyphenated names.

Sorry for being so negative.

On the other hand, I love Orla and Orla Louise is very very nice. Smile

hahaha dw i did ask for honest opinions! i dont want to lumber her with a rubbish name!
i like orla and OH likes rayne. he only likes Rayne and Ruby and is so stubborn!! im not keen on ruby though, i like it for a baby but then for a toddler then again for a teenager its a bit of a spoilt brats name if you get me? (no offence to anyone!!) also its way to common now and i want her to have soemthing different but not wierd

IMO some names that are popular remain 'classy' (Jack, Oliver, Harry, Sophie)... Others lose a bit ot classiness (Olivia, Ruby, Jayden). Which I do think is a shame because they are actually very nice sounding names! Rayne is different and I like it, but I like a name you can shorten or nickname, so I would be tempted to have Rayne as a middle. I do really like Orla... And I know what it's like trying to keep the DH happy! Not much help, and sorry for the ramble!

Rachy91 · 03/12/2010 22:31

haha dont worry! i know what you mean about losing classyness, Rubys a lovely name but now its so popular its almost chavvy which is such a shame! same with lexi and evie although not so much with evie...

i love orla because its pretty and cute as a baby name, cool as a teenager name and then sophisticated for an adult name for when it needs to go on a business card (we can dream!!)

he is definetly going to need to learn to comprimise! though i do quite like rayne as a middle name in my family the middle names tend to be family names and i doubt many of my family have ever even heard of rayne as a name!!

Yes that's it with Ruby... you said chavvy, not me Xmas Grin And definitely Lexi's the same! Evie is a bit of an Olivia I think, can go both ways (so not really 'chavvy'), but very very popular!

I agree that Orla is beautiful. 'Though I never really consider the age thing TBH!! Maybe I should! I just think of a name like a tattoo - even though an old lady with a tattoo would look random today - in 50 years, a lot of old ladies will have them (Xmas Grin funny thought)

In fact my DH likes Raine. Apparently this was Princess Diana's mother, according to family (showing my ignorance, oops) So the oldies might well have heard of it, is what I'm trying to say!

I'm now trying to think of a name I think you'd both like!! Xmas Smile

Raine Louise is pretty and actually quite classy.

Orla Louise has too many 'L' sounds at once, it doesn't flow well imo.

What about Ava Raine? Or I also really like Farah... Farah Louise is pretty?

Hmmm...

Freya
Martha
Hannah/Hana (the 2 have different meanings I believe)
Kate

I also really like Mabel, but not sure you will? (Think it's a bit controversial, but I like it a lot!) Mabel Raine...? Hmm, not really sure of a middle name for Mabel, maybe Elizabeth...

busybusybumblebee · 04/12/2010 00:28

When my DH suggested Raine, it was as Adalyn Raine, which I think is gorgeous...?! Don't know why I've only just thought of it!

Done. Easy. Looks & sounds v nice.

I immediately thought of Raine, Princess Diana's stepmother. Her that was the daughter of Barbara Cartland.

Report
thenightsky · 04/12/2010 00:34

Apparently Princess Diane and her siblings called her the Raine in Spain (behind her back)

Orla is a lovely name, although you might find nosy parkers asking about your Irish connection! What about Phillipa? Pippa, Pipps, Philly when baby/toddler, Phil can be added as a choice for a teenager, even better IMO with a good ballsy handshake when needed and the greeting "I'm Phillipa"! Would be taken seriously.

Report
Rachy91 · 04/12/2010 00:56

i really like pippa but OH doesnt like it

i swear hes bein this picky to wind me up!

i just thought of pippa-raine but its ringing a bell :s any ideas? oh maybe 'purple rain'??
