Hi
Just getting some opinions on the name Fancy. Have you ever met or heard of anybody with this name? Thoughts and honest opinions please.

Really?

No, I don't know anyone called Fancy ...

You could use it as a nn for Francis though? or is it Frances for a girl ...?

I thought you'd be looking for fancy names, that's a surprise.

I suppose it could be a diminutive for Frances, but can't say I'm keen, and I suspect Fancy Pants would be a hazard.

You've presumably considered Nancy?

Oh, thought you wanted a fancy name....

Like, ya know, Gabriella or Isabella-May or such.

Never met anyoen called Fancy. Not sure it's a name. Bit of a cross to bear surely (what if/when someone fancies her...?)

That might be an idea. Tho I'm not one who likes a Sunday name on the birth certificate. I'll ask DH what he thinks.

I want something a bit different to Nancy.

Oh dear, no. I came on to suggest names like Christabel and Cassandra!

It means ornamental or decoration. Certainly unusual.

It sounds like a slang term for a vagina.

As in 'tickle your fancy'?

Bit too close to Fanny, I'd think...

We have a Nancy - mostly/often known as 'Fancy Pants' or 'Fondant Fancy'.

And there is a song that FIL insists on singing which has a line in which goes something like,

'Nancy tickle my fancy' - someone on here knows the rest but I can't remember it now.

My MIL has a sister called Francie. She saw Jesus in the sunflowers in her garden apparently.

Sorry, but I think it would be cruel. I really wouldn't like to go through life being called Fancy.

Makes me think of fondant fancies.

A bit fancy for my liking.

Made me laugh out loud - that's all I can say.

I think its quite silly. What if she wasn't fancy? I don't think you could even use it as a nickname for Frances, that would be Fran, Franny or Frankie. Nancy is fine but not Fancy.

I suspect you are pregnant and the hormones are affecting your judgement.

KERALA1 · 22/11/2010 18:47

Be careful Ineedsomesleep I said that on another baby names thread where OP was in my humble opinion similarly afflicted and I got thoroughly blasted by the hormonal OP for being a wicked sexist Grin

WRT this one - if you love it why not have it as a second name? For me it would fail the adult test - may be cute for curly haired tot but your daughter will one day (hopefully) be a strong adult woman possibly lawyer/banker/construction worker whatever and as a Fancy...just dont see it sorry.

Thanks very much for the tip KERALA1. From personal experience anyone who thinks that their brain isn't affected by pregnancy hormones is either a loon the rest of the time too or in denial Grin
