Do you like the name Seraphina for a girl? Nickname would be Fina.

Any similar names you prefer?

I like it.
I have a friend who is married to an Italian man and has a son called Seraphino, but I actually prefer the female version.

alexisfaith Sat 30-Oct-10 20:20:06

Never heard the male version before, thanks Ruth. My DH is half italian and Catholic, so St Serafina is the inspiration.

Fina makes me think oil company.

Sequins Sat 30-Oct-10 20:44:12

I love this.

Lovely. I wouldn't shorten it, I think Seraphina rolls off the tongue easily.

Gorgeous, this is my chosen name if we ever have another daughter. My NN of choice would be Seffi.

MuffinMouse Sat 30-Oct-10 22:52:28

I love it. My daughter really wants us to name DC3 this. But I suspect that others will shorten it to Sera whether I like it or not. It's just a but too long for everyday. I have a DD with a four syllable name and have managed to resist others shortening (just) but Seraphina is a bit trickier to say. Just a thought..

I love it, Serafina would be my favourite spelling. It's the name of a witch queen in Philip Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy.

Love it. We nearly called DD2 Serafina but she looked more of a Teodora but it is still top of the list if we have another DD!

MelinaM Sat 30-Oct-10 23:31:41

Love it, unusual- but not too much so! ..if that makes sense! x

one of my dd's is Seraphina, never been shortened yet, but would chose Phin of Nina.

MissHavishamsDress Sun 31-Oct-10 06:36:29

I like it very much but prefer Seraphine.

AlpinePony Sun 31-Oct-10 07:29:38

Seraphina is beautiful - Fina makes me want to pull out teeth.

redshoes Sun 31-Oct-10 08:11:55

beautiful - could shorten to fee?

bamboobutton Sun 31-Oct-10 08:15:39

we were going to call dd Seraphine, nn Rafi.

she didn't look like a Seraphine when she was born so she is Esme instead.

Raaarrrggghhhfi Sun 31-Oct-10 09:38:30

We've got a Serafina, we call her Fina or Fi, her mates call her Sera np Seri. You do get misspellings and mispronunciations but we love it and so does she.

Bumperlicious Sun 31-Oct-10 09:58:01

Lovely! Wish dh had let me use this, though dd2 doesn't look like a seraphina.

effymeffy Thu 04-Nov-10 23:58:37

Love it, though there are a couple round here seems to be getting popular

TheFarSide Fri 05-Nov-10 00:11:18

Seraphim and cherubim.

Was that a hymn?

Pasiphae Fri 05-Nov-10 11:44:35

Pretty, but prefers Seraphine, less "fussy".
I nearly had a Seraphine too, but it was too theme-ish with our oldest DD.
She has it as a middle name instead.

lilly13 Wed 10-Nov-10 13:16:47

I like Seraphima (Fima) better. It is an ancient slavic name and is very rare these days.

QueeferSutherBANG Wed 10-Nov-10 23:01:00

Was on my shortlist.
Love it.
