geordieminx Fri 17-Sep-10 20:40:19

fanjoforthemammaries7850 Fri 17-Sep-10 20:41:21

Makes me think of a large ostrich like bird.

I went to school with a Rhea

I have to admit it does make me think of diarrhoea though

Mum72 Fri 17-Sep-10 20:42:17

Not keen myself. I had a neighbour who named thier DD Rhea and my very first thoughts were exactly as geordieminx has described.

My 1st thought was Gonorrhoea. Sorry.

Mum72 Fri 17-Sep-10 20:43:41

oops posted twice!! Sorry I am sure you heard me the first time!

TessOfTheBurbs Fri 17-Sep-10 20:47:12

It sounds exactly like "rear" in most English accents. Rear end was my first thought. Sorry.

ArghMyEyesMyEyes Fri 17-Sep-10 20:48:41

No. No, I don't like it at all.

mathanxiety Fri 17-Sep-10 20:48:41

Is it too late to say I like it? I don't have an English accent though.

I like Rita too.

babysoon1 Fri 17-Sep-10 20:53:27

is it better spelt Ria?
really surprised about comments - I thought people would love it

withorwithoutyou Fri 17-Sep-10 20:54:19

LowLevelWhiinging Fri 17-Sep-10 20:55:21

I love it and have a friend called Rhea. However, she says that her life was made a misery at school as she was called Diarrhoea

nigglewiggle Fri 17-Sep-10 20:56:24

I like it, but I do prefer Ria as the spelling.

FiveOrangePips Fri 17-Sep-10 21:02:55

Rhea is the image I get.

babysoon1 Fri 17-Sep-10 21:08:58

oh no! I'm really gutted - really thought we were sorted on girls name. . .now you're all making me question it. I just thought Ria was lovely.

SixtyFootDoll Fri 17-Sep-10 21:09:51

Ria is nicer (like the mum in Butterflies...oh how I loved that programme [nostalgic emoticon]grin

but rhea is definitely an ostrich I'm afrid

RunLyraRun Fri 17-Sep-10 21:15:38

Slightly smaller than an ostrich? Same lovely eyelashes though.

spiderlight Fri 17-Sep-10 21:17:27

Dredging up a very old memory, wasn't there a whole thing about the name of the character in Butterflies because the mother had decided on Ria and the father, who'd gone to register her, was a keen ornithologist?
