not rocco or romeo, madge and posh got there first. davide and michele i think might be tricky for a second, but no more than a sec before correction. i see what you are saying re marcello but it is lovely... maurizio? i knew a lovely mauri...

and of course i think raffaello is the loveliest.

Michele rhymes with "Bella" and will be mispronounced as Michelle all the time, and people unfamiliar with the name will assume you DC is a girl.

Giacomo (nn "Jack")? Luca?

daisystone Thu 02-Sep-10 13:27:49

And I quite like Nino and Claudio.

My cousin is married to an Italian and has Rudi, Gio and Toni (Antonio)

I know a little boy called Tito.

When my friend was naming her baby, she was considering Enzo and Elio (that might not me the exact spelling) which comes from the word 'Sun'.

onimolap Thu 02-Sep-10 14:29:53

Aitch: 3 syllables mik-el-uh

Sputnik Thu 02-Sep-10 14:46:56

No, that would be Michela, the girl's version.
Michele would be more like Mik-eh-leh

onimolap Thu 02-Sep-10 14:57:03

It's all wrong for the boy we know, then. Though with stress on 1st syllable, would a non-native get it right? Not a comment on OP, more thinking of the general community and how this name would be said in RL.
