Hot glue guns - tell me all the best tips you have

I have purchased a hot glue gun, and it's not as great as i thought it would be.

If it is set at low, it seems to dry too quickly and gives a lumpy finish (fabric onto plastic) I set it at high and when i pressed the fabric onto the plastic i
nearly burnt my fingers.

I tried to glue fabric to a tea cup and it could be easily pulled away.

What am i doing wrong.

Have you any good tips for me?
