A polystyrene and trinket filled cushion with see-through window to amuse 3 y-o on car journeys........

Does anyone know what I am talking about?! I saw a thread about these earlier this year, and saved it to 'I'm watching' but now it's not there.

Basically, someone, somewhere, made these little fabric cushions filled with polystyrene balls and things like tiny toys, pennies, buttons, all sorts of things. The child then supposedly spends hours of endless fun searching for the things in the bag by squishing the contents around and looking through the 'plastic' window.

Am I making any sense at all?? I've tried to find them online as I'd like to buy one, not make one, but I don't know what they're called so I'm not getting very far....

I think they are called "eye-spy bags". Hope you find one!

What a great idea. I just did a google image search...some seem to use uncooked rice, which is easy to get hold of.

they must be simple, Dizzy... just follow the edge of your fabric closely .

I am a bit concerned about them busting... but, they aren't meant for babies.

paisley... I saw another using popcorn kernels.

Lots of choices.

I really want to have a go at making one of these.

Ds is with his dad all day tomorrow, do you reckon it's possible to make one in a day, if I really put my mind to it. I'm thinking it could be a good distraction? But what to put in it for him to rummage for? Ds is only 20 months, I wouldn't leave him on his own with it, so it would be alright wouldn't it?

Ideas?

I've just had a thought. What is it you use to make the window out of?

it's vinyl, Dizzy... but, I'm sorry that I can't tell you any more than that!! Maybe check out a fabric or haberdashery shop and ask for advice?

I think that you could easily make these in less than an hour. The hardest bit would be collecting your "trinkets". They are very cool.

Hiya, you can buy stitchable clear vinyl in The Range if that helps...

I use it under the kids car seats in case of accidents
