Are you sure, JaysMum? 5mm is very thick card, like a big sturdy cardboard box. Not usually something you'd use high quality paper for.

Was the craft shop in the centre of Birmingham? The only ones I know are Spectrum, which is opposite Snow Hill Station, and Everyman, which is round the corner from 5 Ways Station. If you could remember which shop it was, you could call them.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but there seems to be Mulberry card for sale on Ebay if you look under the 'crafts: card and envelopes' section. No idea if it's 5mm thick or not.

I'm not very good at links , but I just typed in 'Mulberry Card'.

I have tried google, ebay, a long list of suppliers and no one seems to have any!!!!

I need the card to be as thick as cardboard box card...I have seen it, but like I said I cant remember where.....it wasnt in B'ham city centre.....havent been there since I was a baby and I went to see the Santas Grotto in Rackhams!!!!

The crafts shops where in Licfield, Sutton, Tamworth, Stafford area... basically all over the of North B'ham.....ummmm but I did go to York that week too!!!!!!

So bugged by this because I have a fantastic idea for something for someones christening and I need the card to make it!!!!!

If all else fails I will have to cover thick card with the Mulberry card I have here.....wont be as effective though!!!!

Thanks for looking!!!!

A Christening Box.....A4 size.

With a little book inside filled with velum sheets inside so those attending the christening can write a message to the baby.....pockets to put little keepsakes in...a family tree....a photograph frame....
It all goes into the Box!!!
I'm not very good at explaining it....

Ive made up a draft out of an old card board box....shown it to a few friends to get their feed back....and have had three orders....one for a 60th Birthday thats not until October....a wedding in Sept and the Christening which is in 5 weeks time!!!!!

I would need quite a few sheets of the card if you can get it????

Jaysmum - I am struggling a bit I have to admit. My original thoughts of a supplier have not been able to come up with anything, but I have contacted a few others who should get back to me today or tomorrow.

Fab idea by the way - if it takes off I will definitely put an order in!

I have been having a look though at how the type of box you are describing are normally made (they're normally imported from Thailand where they grow Sa trees). It seems that most of them are actually made form handmade thick card covered in a thin layer of mulberry paper, but there are some products made from mulberry board, so it is around somewhere.

If you can't manage to get any, I did think that maybe you could coat both sides of some nice handmade card with mulberry tissue paer impregnated with skeleton leaves, using PVA, to give like a papier mache look and then construct the boxes from that once it is all dried.

I'll let you know once I've heard from the other people I've contacted. Hope you will still love me forever and ever !

It does sound great!

Fancy another order for a 1st birthday in 4 weeks?

Craft Creations don't do it in card sorry

The colours closest to what you want are white and ivory that they do.

JaysMum, I've done a couple of keepsake boxes too.
I haven't actually made them from scratch though, I have used the pre-made papermache boxes, painted on a base colour and decorated accordingly. For the wedding one I used decoupage confetti, lace, small photocopied photographs. The christening ones were lovely to do, I hand painted the childs name, date of birth.... it took me ages but was great fun and a really reasonable priced original gift.
Good luck with your search!

Sorry Jaysmum - I feel like a complete let down but I have drawn a complete blank on this one. Sorry .
Everyone of the suppliers I have contacted has only been able to come up with either thinner card than you need or the option of buying the ready made boxes.
Sorry again!

I got all excited because I had a phone call from a supplier to say he located some mulberry board for me!!!!! Yippppeeeee!!!!!!
THEN I got a phone call to say the suppliers wanted a minimum order of £500 from the supplier and he wouldnt order any other products from them as they are quite expensive compared to the other suppliers he uses!!!!!

So a big thanks AQ....I have ordered the product you highlighted from Lakeland.....I contctec them and they thought I would need 4 pots to finish the box as I want it.....so thanks for that and I'll let you know how it goes....

Thanks to M&M and everyone else for your help too......I can always rely on you girlies for help....cheersxxxxx
