I am pretty much a knitting virgin, but have bought a baby knit book and want to knit a little hat for my wee boy. Is there a good site to buy stuff? Preferably cheap as I am a bit strapped for cash

I have a code for 10% off at Kangaroo.

The code is dis06

But haven't used them before

If you google wool shops you will find loads but you need to check they sell the wool you want before getting too excited

Good luck with you knitting

Don't know where you are, but Wilkinson's are selling a 100gr ball of DK 'wool' for 89p. Can't be bad. If you buy on line you have to pay postage and that is often more than t he wool itself if all you want is a wee hat.

they are here you can see if there are any near you. In London I would have thought there would be markets and so on where you can buy a cheap ball of wool

A baby hat won't take much wool, one or two balls at the most. I would just go to John Lewis, they have a pretty good selection and then you can see it in person.

Try the £1 shops. They often sell wool.
Good luck. I'm starting to teach myself to knit and last night mastered the purl - I was ridiculously chuffed

Hi is it double knitting you want? I have 2 or 3 balls of Debbie bliss double knitting in a blue shade called hyacinth not unlike this face Left over from a jumper i did for one of my sons. Can let you have just one ball or two or however many I've got.

£1 shop wool is not pleasant knitted up its all acrylic. Same kinda stuff at Wilkinsons.

I get wool for my boys jumpers and hats from ebay, you can get really good quality 'vintage' wool (ie someone's had it in their loft for years) that is really good quality and high % wool, and usually for about 1/4 to 1/2 the price of new balls, because there isn't enough of it to knit for an adult.

Anyway if you are interested in the Debbie Bliss VERY CHEAP please email me on legoates @ tiscali .co.uk I can check how many balls I have got and see about a nice bargaintastic price for you

I've found shopping on ebay great for stocking up on all crafting supplies.

Flibberty, It's from sound of music: the song is "How do you solve a problem like Maria"

oh, ok - can't say I know all the words to that but I think I can half hear in my head where the words would fit in!

I only picked the name cos when I was doing my mn registration the first 1,000 or so nicknames I came up with were already taken!

Anyone want my couple of balls of blue debbie bliss cashmerino dk in blue then?

Flibberty, it goes:

"How do you find a word that means Maria?
A Flibbertygibbit? A will-o-the-wisp? A clown?
