Ideas for a "yellow" fancy dress costume please!

Dd1 has asked if she can dress up for "yellow" day at school (fund raising day) - there is a prize for the best costume. She is very ungirly (so think boy costume ) and would prefer something humourous (sp?). So far I have come up with a banana (too obvious, there will be lots of bananas I reckon), and a sun (not very funny really ) ... any more ideas? I don't think she would go for a flower ... I can sew and have a machine but a limited budget so lots of construction/foam would cost too much I think

Any ideas appreciated!

How about a bee? Black stripes on a yellow background, antennae can be stuck to an alice band, and black tights?

Ds3 wants to dress up as Mr Happy for World Book Day. He is yellow.....

My problem is I have nothing yellow to dress him in.

I don't suppose you (or she) would fancy making a Spongebob Squarepants costume by any chance?

ooooh mmj like the duck idea!! And the bee one is good too (though I wouldn't get her into tights ), but black trousers is a possibility ...

Tamum, she is far too old and cool for spongebob

I am loving Mr Happy too, if she would go for it ... I'll see what she thinks when she comes home from school! Thank you

I feared so, Miaou (can't help laughing at the notion of Mr Happy being more acceptably cool though )

How about a chich (tis nearly easter). A big yellow tshirt with low slung belt then stuff with padding to make a humourous belly and then make a chick hat and skinny leggings?

Or how about one of these She could make a big cardboard version and wear acid house clothes and take a whistle?

first suggestion was chick not chich

Oh yes, just realised we are talking about a 10 year old. I should think Mr Happy would not be at all acceptable to her then.

My ds3 is only 5!

Oh no, it wasn't aimed at you DG, sorry- it was Miaou's post saying she was too cool for Spongebob immediately followed by trying her with Mr Happy when she got home. Actually, the Mr Men did become quite cool in an ironic way in the 80s, I remember.

rofl at kill bill - even I haven't watched that

Well I asked her when she came home from school and she said, "well they are good ideas mummy, but I want to go as a yellow elephant." WTF?????

Turns out it's to raise fund for research into children's liver disease and the logo is a yellow elephant ...!

So - am going to get a baseball cap (hopefully yellow) and attach ears, eyes and a trunk to it, then make a pair of yellow trousers for her (she has a yellow top)

Dd2 also wants in on the act though so I shall run some of these ideas past her too (though might not mention the kill bill one )

Thanks for the ideas folks!

Update - we bought 3 metres of bright yellow material and some wadding today - dd2 has decided she wants to go as Mr Happy

Argh I must be insane ... !

Awww, I am so proud to have suggested the final choice. I wish you could knock up a Mr Happy costume for ds3 too. I think I have persuaded him to go as Mr Bump though (far easier to dress him in blue and put bandages on him).
